hey gals
first time posting!
so i have natural dark brown hair
but for the last 2+ years i've been dying it BLACK
now it's summer and i wanna brighten it a bit
so i died my hair mahogany brown 3 TIMES already
my roots dyed well since my roots were already showing + i have a little grey hair there too :O
but 7/8 of the length of my hair is still VERY VERY dark
i'm leaving for a vacation in 5 days and wanted to ask if you have any solutions?
i've heard that if you use deep conditioner product, leave it on for hours - the old dye washes
away - is that true?! is it close but not accurate?
HELP!
thanks :D

of course your roots will take accordlying because its virgin hair. unfortunatly the hair that has been colored the past few years black it going to be nearly impossible to lighten with out using a bleach or decolorizer. Hair color wont lift hair color, the results are unpredicable. even if you are using a lighter color, applying it to the ends will deposit color. the reason is when you are using a " mahogany brown" which lets say is about 3 to 4 shades lighter than a level 1 (black) there is not enough lift in a 3-4 to lift out the black. in the color level system the lower the "number" the less lift and more deposite color you are getting, hence why your ends are staying black. honestly you should just get highlight to help give the illusion of having lighter hair. also the deep conditioner may not lighten it, but health hair take good color. hope this helps.

Colour is not going to lift colour, as mentioned. IMO, go to a salon and get it lightened professionally.
