I am looking into getting into yoga so I was thinking about just getting a regular mat from Wal-Mart but I wanted to know if it is worth the money to buy a better brand or if they are all the same and what brands do you use?. Also I have carpet in my home and I didn’t know if mattered in getting a mat (kind of silly I know).
Hi I'm yoga instructor, I recommend to invest some money in yoga mat for long term use. Jade mat and Manduka pro light mar are my favorite brand. It has great grip and last long time, Manduka mat last longer than Jade but more expensive. For practice in carpet, you might not need mat or if your carpet is super cushion i recommend not practice there because its too much in your wrist..Let me know if you have more questions :)
Have a great yoga class!
If you are doing heated yoga it would very important that you use a slip-resistant mat. I find that my 5 dollar mat that I purchased at 5 below works just as well as a gaim brand. The only difference I noticed is the color and the size of the mat (I'm short so it wasn't a big deal). I think it also depends on how often you practice.
Thank you for your feedback, well my carpet isn’t too cushiony but it isn’t the most comfortable or soft so I feel that maybe a mat may help that. You could get a rug burn just from sitting on it for too long. For now I think I may invest in a whatever mat that I can get from Meijer but I did find that the Manduka eKO Lite Mat seems to be more in my price range. Just out of curiosity any thoughts on that mat in particular?
