A lil secret for well blending foundation >>> I put a little bit of sunscreen and blend it in with my tinted moisturiser. Half as much sunscreen as foundation. Then rub it on the back of your hand and use a sponge to dab it on. Remember to wash your hands afterwards! :)
You don't need a crap ton of foundation. You just don't. I was using so much foundation once upon a time, and when I discovered the ELF Powder Brush, all of that stopped. I apply my foundation with this brush and stipple it on. I use 1-2 pumps of MUFE's HD Foundation, and my coverage is amazing. My skin looks flawless with it! It's all in the application and what works for you. =]
You could switch to BB creams or tinted moisturizers but if you want to stick with your normal foundation honestly use less and focus your powder on your T zone! it makes a huge difference in my opinion!
A tinted moisturizer or light coverage foundation with a translucent setting powder is all you need for a natural look. Finish with a dust of rose colored blush, few coats of mascara and lipgloss and you're good to go! Check out my Fresh Natural Everyday look for a step by step tutorial:
spray some Fix+ spray from MAC all over your face after your done with your makeup routine. the Fix+ spray softens up the makeup giving it a much more natural look to it.
Mix your foundation with a moisturizer for your own tinted moisturizer, this gives a more natural/sheer look. I apply this with a stippling or powder brush. Remember to use powder to set your foundation as well, but you don't need to OVER-powder your face. Also, if you don't own one, invest in a highlighter! I prefer liquid or cream highlighters and I put it on the high points of my cheek bones and a bit on my brow bone to make my skin look more dewy and natural rather than completely matte.
I use the same technique as Lacey A. mentioned above. I use a powder brush with my MUFE HD foundation. I feel it gives me just enough coverage without feeling like I'm wearing way too much foundation. I also sometimes mix it a little with moisturizer or face primer. I try to focus it on my problem areas, i.e. redness on my cheeks or undereye bags, so the rest of my face will have light coverage.

Try applying it with a wet sponge, or mixing your foundation with moisturiser to sheer it out (this is how you make tinted moisturiser)
This might be of use to you, I just made a tutorial on a no makeup-makeup look, there might be some tips there: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-zI...

I think the brand of makeup you use really matters, why not try AVON PRODUCTS,they are really nice and gives you that matte finish you desire.
