Hello everyone!
Ok so I really need your help. Last week I visited my derm and she recommended the retinoic acid at night and an antibiotic gel during the day, (my face wash is salycilic acid-based). As you can imagine, the whole regimen has made my skin flaky, sensitive and super dry it's peeling like crazy! (the derm told me to skip moisturizers for two weeks)
Has anyone done this type of peel before? should I continue with the treatment? Moisturize even though the dr. told me not to? :(
thanks in advance!

The main thing with any peel is do not peel off the skin, let it flake on it's own..you can scar yourself that way. I find it interesting that she said to stay away from moisturizers for a few weeks, especially since most post-peel kits come with one. I also find it a little odd that you're using an acid every single night, do you by any chance know the pH or the percentage of the retinols in it?

I know it will pay off! lol I'm just freaking out a little because I had never gone through this before :( and it hurts like freaking hell!
Also, is it normal for my skin to breakout?

I know right? I also found that really odd! I mean I'm having another appointment exactly at the end of the treatment, but still! it's almost two weeks without moisturizing!
I'm using a 2% SA face wash, a 4% erythromycin gel two times a day and 0.01 retinoic acid every night.

The retinoic acid doesn't seem too harsh, I am interested in what else is in the gel though. I would still moisturize, I'm sorry lol. It doesn't seem right to not do so. Did you have an actual retinol chemical peel, or are you using the at home products?

I know it's not but I got really sensitive skin :(. As to the ingredients, the label only mentions the main ones because the product comes straight from the labs. The derm told me to do the at home treatment and after that proceed with the actual peel. I think I will moisturize and see how my skin reacts to that, maybe skipping the acid just for tonight??

Hi Alexia I wad on a regimen similar to that and my derm never said to not moisturize, I think that it may be she doesn't want you using a product that may be too heavy and therefore end up clogging your pores by not allowing the dead skin to peel as it should naturally but I still think that with those products they should have recommended something to help moisturize the skin somewhat and help to repair and protect the new layer of skin... I would call and talk to them and express your concerns, if you still feel your not happy with what they say then I would seek a second opinion, don't ever feel like you don't have a say in the treatment of your own body/skin, you have to be your own advocate! personally the program I was on for acne didn't even work and I went through quite a few dermatologists to find one that I liked and knew what they were doing and actually had conversations with me about my thoughts, options, risks, etc... so anyways guess I just want to advise you and others to speak up, ask questions and do your own research too and if you are not happy its ok to see someone else :-) you will be glad you did. sorry for the rant but if you do end up moisturizing I suggest to use a very small amount of jojoba or coconut oil rub in hands, and very lightly pat onto the skin kind of in a rolling motion with your palms to push it in. those oils will absorb much better than thick creams and have good soothing ingredients, they also are close to the same composition of our natural oils we produce. good luck hun, I hope it all works out <3

Thanks a lot Jamie! I really appreciate your comment and I totally agree with you. I'm sure she didn't want me to use any heavy products on my face that would make my pores clog, but anyways. I was pretty aware of the side-effects and I guess it's normal for the skin to get flaky, dry, inflamed, etc. maybe it's not that bad and I'm just freaking out over it (I was a peel virgin haha). I will try to talk to her tomorrow morning and see what she says, skipped the acid anyway, one night won't hurt right?
Thank you lovely lady!

If youre skin is reacting this way just from the pre-peel products, I'm not so sure a peel is the way to go, itll be even worse. definitely consult your derm.

I'm sure she meant to skip the moisturizer with the acid in it too. I've never heard of a Derm telling a patient to skip moisturizer all together so I think you misunderstood what she meant. Trust the proces, sometimes it just takes our skin time to adjust to products and though it is really inconvenient- its for the best.
