Hello :)
I have been thinking about getting my hair extensions sewn in rather than just clipping them in. I was wondering if anyone on here has had it done? My hair dresser says it is pretty painful in the first couple of days because obviously it has to be really tight. Can anyone tell me their experience of washing and drying their hair? Does it damage your natural hair leaving it in such tight braids for long periods of time? Or does it help your normal hair because you aren't straightening it as much? I also worry about my own hair getting really greasy while it is in the braids. Thankyou.

I was told it stops your hair from growing. I had it done once before and I had a headache for about 2 days. I washed it with the same shampoo. Always used heat protectant. If you do get them make sure they do small braids. It will look more natural.

Sew in is so unbelievably painful the first time. Also, the braising breaks your hair. Or at least that wast experience. It didn't help nor damage too much. Just when they are physically braising it. I would wash my hair normally. Just not as often. I will never ever ever sew in my hair again. Clip ins forever :) lol hope I helped!

I've had a sewin for years. Depending on who you go to, the braiding should not be that tight. If it's painful when you're hairdresser is braiding your hair, you need to tell them to stop. As for breaking off my hair, I've had no breakage, and because sewins are known as a protective style, my hair grown considerably thicker and longer. The process of growing might be a bit longer being your hair is braided, but unless you purposely damage your hair like constantly pulling or such at your braids, then there should be very minimal damage.

For braiding your hair, it should never be painful. When a hairdresser braids your hair too tight, that's what mainly causes breakage to your own hair. As far as washing and conditioning, you should wash it as you normally do but for the extensions you should use downward strokes so that your hair won't tangle up horridly. I hope I helped out. (:

I do I like clipping them but right now I have them braided. I wash it as normal but not too often, and my stylist told me that it does help my own hair to grow faster, bcuz if you massage, comb, or kind of pull your hair it actives the cell that has to do with the hair and make them grow faster. And depends how tight they do your braid, it won't hurt that bad, only the fist 2 days.

Why do you want to switch extension styles? I use halo extensions and they are amazing. they are the gentlest weave I've ever used on both my hair and my head. I've used glue ins, clip ins, and weave ins and halos are by far the best. they do have some limitations but its nothing too annoying, its basically limited to headbanging and swimming with your head in the water.

I plan on getting my first sew in soon & I'm so excited :) I have thin & flat hair , not a good combo :( I have gotten my whole head braided before , & it's really not that bad. I believe the sewing in process is probably the painful part. I used to have clip in extensions , but I didn't really like them because it only made my hair longer , not thicker. I suggest you get a sew in , they are fabulous! good luck :D.

I love the clip ins my stylist made me. I swim lots and do yoga..hike with my dogs and so permanent just doesn't suit my lifestyle. No pain...less price...still get my sexy with longer locks when the mood strikes. Good luck and hope you enjoy them! :)

Actually a sewn in is used to grow hair, not break it off. If its breaking, maybe the hair dresser braided your hair too tight. Also it should last longer than clip ins depending on how well you take care of the hair and braids underneath.

I want a change from clip ins because I don't have time to clip extensions in every morning. I was thinking sew in because they seem more reliable than micro loop, my hair is already super thick, so I really don't need to add volume, I just want longer hair. Also, because my hair is ginger, its really difficult to find extensions in the same colour, I have tried dying extensions to match and I have ruined some in the past so I don't want to do it again. I think I will eventually get them sewn in, mixed opinions on here but if I don't try I will never know. The thought of breakage doesn't worry me, my hair is so thick I probably wouldnt notice. Thankyou for your help ladies, I will post pictures if I get it done :)
