While I'm not actively doing mua jobs, I've done a few jobs and I have a Graftobian foundation palette in Warm. I've been able to match everyone. You can get an aspiring artist discount at LeCosmetique and the palettes will be cheaper than other places.

If you are just beginning I would look into foundation palettes such as Graftobian or look into a cheaper but good quality foundation that you can get multiple shades of such as Revlon Colorstay. what you should have in your kit:

1)Brushes- look into a set with a wide range of brushes that are good quality Real Techniques and Sigma have great sets that you can use.
2)Brush Sanitizer (not shampoo) that way you can quickly clean your brushes in between clients
3)Disposable utensils (mascara wands, spatulas, lip brushes, etc) Sanitation is very very important. The more things you can throw away after each client the better. Also look into getting a washable flat palette for putting product on or for mixing foundations.
4) Multiple foundations...I suggest getting at least four ranging from fair to dark so that you can mix or match...everyone is different
5) A corrector palette (look for one with a salmon, yellow, and green) This will be helpful in hiding hyper pigmentation, redness, and dark circles.
6) Setting Powder...You can either go for colored powders or a translucent but make sure you know what will work for photography versus natural light.
7)Eye Primer
8)Eyeshadow Palettes (BH Cosmetics, Coastal Scents, and Crown Brush all have a wide variety of inexpensive beginner palettes) Palettes are always the way to go because they are the easiest to carry and you can have a large amount of colors at your fingertips
9)Eyebrow products (powder, wax, and pencil) you can get away with using matte brown shadows most of the time but look into an eyebrow kit like the Sigma one
10)Mascara
11)Eyeliner both liquid and pencil. I would suggest getting brown and black in both.
12)A blush palette (you can get these at the sites I listed for eyeshadow palettes)
13) A contour/ highlight kit
14) Setting Spray like UD Deslick Spray

* I also carry around hand sanitizer, a hand towel, tissues, cotton balls, makeup remover wipes, and hair clips!
