It depends on your hair and the shampoo you use. My younger sister, with her fine oily hair likes to wash every day. With my hair, I can go 3-4 days with a little dry shampoo in the morning.
Shampoo usually contains a lot of harsh surfactants and salts that can dry out your hair. If you insist on washing it often, you can find sulfate free shampoo. It's not necessary to shampoo all of your hair. The shampoo moving down the shaft when you rinse it is plenty to clean stuff off. I never, ever shampoo my ends unless I've oiled my hair the night before.
Personally, I wash it every 4-5 days and I don't even need dry shampoo. You can "train" your scalp to produce less oil and I find that the Living Proof Prime Style Extender works wonders in keeping my hair clean and bouncy for quite a long time.
I wash mine every other day. I shampoo my whole head then only condition the ends.
If you're hair doesnt get oily quick then you can go a long time but it depends.

I wash mine everyday. My hair is really fine and thin and flat, so it shows oil super fast. I don't really have any split ends or issues so it depends on hair type.
I had dreadlocks for 3 years and I washed my hair about twice a week. Now that I'm back to my normal hair I only wash 2- 3 times a week. I use very little shampoo and conditioner only once a week. I rarely straighten it and never blow dry it. I get tons of compliments on my hair and its down to my lower back and thick. What works for me won't work for everyone. But if you really did have dreadlocks you would know that they need wash and care just as much if not more than other hair types.
the reason you girls have to wash your hair everyday is BECAUSE you wash it everyday. you strip all the natural oils and moisture your hair has with crap shampoo, then your hair over produces OR stops producing those oils. which in turn makes your scalp overly greasy or really dry!
If your hair is fine and gets oily you can wash it evryday, just use a good moisturizer or oil (coconut is amazing).
If you wash it every other day your hair will "get used to that" and overtime will produce less oil.
Also, don't use moisturizers on your roots.
I usually wash my hair about 3 times a week, shampoo, conditioner and other hair products can cause build up to your hair if you use it too often. Washing your hair about 3, 4 times a week is fine, but it definitely depends on your hairtype, structure and the products that u use.

I wash my hair every other day, and use a dry shampoo to get me between washes. Dove and Suave both make good, cheap aerosol dry shampoos.

I wash mine every other day. If you wash it every day the lack of oil dries out your hair and dry hair splits.

Washing your hair is good. It's moisturizing. If you wash it often, all you have to do is add oil (I use Moroccanoil) to seal in the moisture.
