Go to a salon coming from a professional hair stylist there are lots of things you can do, only bleach it if its the last thing left todo!

It would get damaged overtime if you've never died it. But depending on age and whether or not you haven't died it in awhile it would still. I'm taking it you're under 30 though which is a plus otherwise you'd have to really dye it with more work. But other than that if you're really concerned about damaging or are adding more damage to damaged hair then I say just dye it a shade darker.

Your hair will only be damaged to a point of breakage if you do it wrong. A professional will be able to minimise damage. I took my near black hair to platinum myself by bleaching in stages. At no point did my hair break or feel like straw. You just have to do it right and care as you go. If you basically want to prelighten to go say 2-3 shades lighter you ahould notice any damage. Every process puts strain on our its alot down to genetics and how healthy your hair is to start!

If you bleach it, you can buy this stuff called three minute miracle and it makes your hair perfectly soft and good again instead of the feel of the bleached hair

Don't bleach it!! I did and all my hair broke off half way down the shaft.

Probably better off seeing if a high lift tint would work before bleaching

Don't once I did it is literally like an acid! My hair felt dry and gross after. Also the person who did it got a tiny bit on the top of my ear and when she rinsed it off a ton of skid pealed off and started bleeding. So I'd say just don't.

The lower the developer, the less damaging.
What’s your hair color now? The 10 volume developer lifts 1 level, the 20 lifts 2 levels, the 30 volume lifts 3 levels, and so on and so on. If you have really dark hair you’re going to have use a higher volume developer (depending on how blond you want to lift to, and the blonder you lift to, the brighter the color you put on top of it will be). You can also control how blond you go by how long you leave the bleach in. For example, I used a 40 volume developer, but I only left it in for about 5-10 minutes (monitoring it until I achieved the color I wanted).
These are the natural hair levels, so you can determining how many levels you need to lift:

depends who is more experienced at it and how much of it they do, because if you bleach it too much, it'll basically ruin most of your hair

Apparently if it is done by a professional the damage isn't much

Don't bleach your hair, it will fry it! And than your hair is hard to manage and it loses the silly shiny look and you will get dead ends and split ends. Bleach is hard on the hair and takes forever to fade out and I mean many months and it is hard to keep up with because roots come in quick.

Yeah bleaching your hair will damage your hair pigmentation.

Yes you would have to keep bleaching it for touch ups and the damaging depends on how many levels of your hair color you need to lift
