Well if you get a toner just make sure it cancels out that color so I'd say maybe more of a greenish toner might help versus using purple or blue, but I'm also not sure since I've never toned a brown color

No! Toning it will not work - your hair is too dark, and the ashiness of it is pulling too green - so if you were to put an ash dye over the top it will be even more green. You either need to a) lift the hair a bit more to a level 7/8 and tone with a blue based toner, or b) apply a golden/red based semipermanent haircolor on top to cancel out the greenish hue.
