Have you seen this happen...?

After several times using this on my brushes - which, by the way, I preferred using to my Dr. Bronner's liquid soap - I opened it one day to find what look like mold spots! Has anyone experienced this before? Is it mold? If so, I guess I should throw this out...? Are these usually good cleansers?

Omg that's crazy, it's definitely mold. I have never used this product but thats unacceptable

I have been using that brush soap for quite some time, and I have never had that happen, ever. I would definitely toss it. If you want my honest opinion, that happened because of user error. It is not the soap. As you know, to wash the brush, you wet the brush and lather it on the surface of the soap. There's always some residual water left behind, and I always make sure that I rinse the surface of the soap and then take a paper towel and soak up any residual moisture on the surface of the soap. I leave the container open for a few minutes, and then check to make sure the surface of the soap is dry before I place the lid on it, and then store it in a cool dry area.

Looks like what happened here is you closed this soap up to quickly, and there was some residual moisture on the surface that sunk and since you closed it up... premiere breeding ground for mold. The same thing can happen with a Beauty Blender: if you cleanse it and don't let it dry all the way and then put it back in its container and seal it...the same thing will happen:  Mold.

Thanks Jacqueline, I did not know this! I don't think I've read anything about taking care of brush soap before. I'm so glad I can avoid this because I really enjoyed using it. Sometimes, I admit as well, a brush hair would get stuck in the soap and I wouldn't get it out because I'd have to scrape it out and didn't want to waste the product! Hahahaha! Silly me...now I'm wasting the whole jar! What brand of this kind of soap do you use?

I use that soap. I love it. I remember recommending it to you.  :)

Oh, great! I don't remember where I got it though. I thought it was here but I don't see it. Where do you get yours? Maybe on Amazon...?

May 24, 2016

Chris M.

Yours is vegan...it's different...?

May 24, 2016

Chris M.

Nope, not Amazon.

Hey Chris, I got mine on Beautylish! It's showing up for me! And I believe the vegan version is for synthetic bristles, and the goat milk is for natural bristle brushes. I actually own both, and I haven't had this problem with either! I've admittedly never rinsed or dried mine off before, but it looks like I'm about to start!

Actually I take it back - the brand is showing up on my app but it won't let me click on it. I just went online on my laptop and it doesn't seem to be there anymore (it used to be). Oh no! The London Brush Company has a website though that you can get it from. It comes up if you google them.

I purchased the one in the picture from Beautylish, and I use it on both natural and synthetic bristle. I have also used the one you have and never had a mold issue. Before Beautylish started to sell it I bought it from Nigel's.  :)

I'm about to clean my most favorite, but dirty foundation brush with it.  :)

It's sure a beauty!
Thank you Jamie and Jacqueline! I'll find it somewhere!
In the meantime, I have the Beauty Blender one and one from Japonesque...what about those?

All clean... :) Alma uses the solid Beauty Blender cleanser and really likes it.

I'm starting to think that Coconut milk, water, oil, etc. can pretty much solve any issue. My current jar of London Brush Soap has a coconut milk base to it, and I love how it makes my brushes feel. I just ate a half of an Almond Joy bar, and I feel better... that could be the chocolate though. Next time I don't care for my husband's attitude, I'm going to douse him with some coconut water and see if that improves his mood.  ;)

Hahahahaha! Sounds like a good idea...maybe I'll try that on my husband! Coconut is very soothing ;)
What is that gorgeous brush? And...were you saving the other half for me?

Oh, BTW... Just to be on the safe side, I contacted London Brush Company about what I think happened (I told her exactly what I said here on this thread) with your brush soap, and this was her reply:

Dear Jackie

You are absolutely right. We always advise to let Brush Shampoo dry out after using.. Just leave it on the side for a while and pour out the liquid - if any - in the pot.

Close the lid once the soap has dried out.

Yaya B.

You can always use baby shampoo to cleanse your brushes and air dry them after, facing down.

May 24, 2016

Chris M.

Thank you Yaya! I have plenty of liquid brush soap - I like the Dr. Bronner's...but I prefer the method of the solid soap. I find it easier, thus I'm more apt to wash my brushes! ;)

Chris M.

Thanks for doing that, Jacqueline! I actually thought of writing them myself, but figured there was nothing new they could tell me. I have already ordered more of the product and will use as you've recommended. Thanks again!

You're welcome Chris. That is a Hakuhodo S5557

It's my favorite foundation brush. :) If you ever come to Vegas, I've always got Almond Joy bars in my house... Coconut and chocolate is my weakness. :)

You do??!! I love Almond Joys! Do you get the mini ones and put them in the freezer? I do that with 3 Musketeers!! The best!

May 25, 2016

Jacqueline H.

I do get the mini's, but I have never put them in the freezer. I just popped 5 little bars of joy in there. :) I don't know why I never thought of that because I love doing that with the dark chocolate Milky Way bars. Thanks Chris.  :)

My pleasure! I put grapes in the freezer too - great snack!!
