I feel like it might be a little tricky since I have dark brown hair. Also, my skin tone is tan/olive so I'm not sure if it would look good on me. Any recommendations on colors or tips in general? Of course I would be getting it done professionally and I'm going to ask if I could go light a few months at a time.

Hi Christine, what shade of blonde did you have in mind?
Hopefully you can get some great feed back from the community. :)

I quite like the third one. It's especially nice for when your roots grow out, it won't be as noticeable compared to the 2nd one.
I would go for a neutral or cool/silvery undertone.
You seem to have a warm undertone. I noticed that when people with yellow undertones get a yellow toned color it tends to make them look washed out or very brown/neutral depending on the depth of your skin tone as well as the hair color.
If you think about how people with "cool toned skin" or pink toned skin.
Are commonly suggested getting an ash (green undertone) hair color.
Pink, isn't actually a cool tone.
Red, orange and yellow are all warm tones.
True cool tones are blue, purple and green.
With that being said, go with the slight opposite tone which is what is commonly done with "cool toned" people. It'll bring out your skin tone rather than wash you out.

Totally like the 3rd one too! Definitely share the look when you get it :))
@Aurora that's so interesting! Had no idea. I'm also tan/olive tone with yellow tones. I would like to go lighter (not blonde). Is that the same concept with a brown shade? (Sorry Christine didn't mean to take over your post).

Darker hair in general may make your skin appear lighter due to the contrast so the undertone won't really cause the skin to look more washed out unless your color is very caramel colored, in that case it could end up washing you out or making the complexion look very neutral/kinda muddy compared to a very warm tone of the hair.
A basic brown color is like one part blue, two parts red and three parts yellow. So it already has that cool tone in it.
With blonde hair it takes out the blue and most the red leaving a yellow color so it's quite important to tone it according to your undertone.
Pink toned skin looks better with neutral to ash (green)
Warm toned people look better with neutral or a sort of purple or blue (silver) undertone.
Doing the opposite undertone brings out your skins undertone and prevents people from looking washed out.
It's kind of hard to get a very cool toned brown shade aside from ash.
When you try to use a blue or purple undertone it tends to just make the brown look darker.
Using an ash color could definitely work since ash is a true cool tone. Tyra banks would use an ash brown a lot and it would make her skin look more radiant IMO.
But if you're a true olive(have green tones to your skin, like myself) an ash color will make you look very yellow and sorta wash out the green tone.
If you're more yellow and use and ash color, it may bring out the natural reddish tone causing you to look a tad more peach colored

@Aurora thank you so much you have been so helpful!! I would want to get a baylage so I'll look for pictures and post them on your profile to get some input. I definitely have yellow undertones so I'll be taking that ash brown in consideration when looking at colors!
