Is this normal?

After about 9 hours, my makeup is sort of seperating from my face and looking Cakey.

I applied my IT cosmetics CC cream this morning around 8. I blended it in with the IT cosmetics blurring foundation brush. Then I put on NYX HD concealer (under my eyes, forehead, chin, and around my nose for redness) and blended it in with my BB. I set my everything with the ELF HD powder.

I used the lush ocean face scrub last night to exfoliate and moisturized with the tarte hydra boost gel. (The new rainforest of the sea one). This morning I gently washed my face and used garnier brightening moisturizer.

Around my nose is where the CC cream is seperating and my redness is now extremely visible. Above my lip on my Cupid's bow is where my skin looks dry and cakey.

I don't really understand because I don't have dry or flakey skin. Is it normal that I've just been wearing makeup for so long to look like this at the end of the day? Or how do I fix this? I truly thought I prepped my skin, blended, and set it properly?

I would use less cc cream there or none at all. If you're going to apply concealer there, I don't really think you need to put your cc cream on before. The less layers the better.

I would look into a primer and setting spray to help make things last longer! I find that without these, not foundations don't last on my skin past 8 hours.

The issue with makeup is that it will always exaggerate texture. Even when the effect is minimized, which it definitely can be to get a "flawless finish", it's possible that the makeup is bringing attention to a skin issue that's not visible to the naked eye. I think a primer suited to either hydrating or smoothing could definitely minimize this effect and make your makeup last longer, as would a setting spray.

I like the MUFE Nourishing Primer, but that might be too rich if you don't have very obvious dryness. Hopefully someone can recommend something that might work better! As for a setting spray, I like the Kat Von D Lock n Load. :)

Thanks marleen! Good idea I'll try that :)

Jamie I've tried the MUFE hydrating primer and I feel like it never helps :( do you have any other brand you would recommend??

So I wore my IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream today and have had it on for about 8 hours now. I've never experienced any separating or exaggeration of dryness. If you're setting your entire face I would suggest just setting places you've applied concealer. Also if you stipple/press this product into the skin, whether it's with a flat top brush or a beauty sponge (I use the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge dry to apply it), you'll get better coverage out of it so maybe you won't have to use more concealer on top of it.

The only primers I've used are the MUFE Nourishing (which is different from the Hydrating, so I don't know how they compare) and the Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer - but that's a very mattifying primer and I'm not sure I would recommend it for your skin type. I'm sorry!

I'll try it with my RT sponge! I never really thought of that since I got it. Do you stipple it with a brush THEN press with your sponge? Or do you just use your fingers to apply then use your sponge? Sorry for so many questions Alexis lol.

It's okay Jamie no worries :)

Dana, I put one pump on the back of my hand, dip the sponge into it, and bounce it onto my skin (:

All makeup will separate throughout the day - dome quicker than others - which is why it's good to touch up. It could also be thr productd not working well together..It also separates when there's too much moisturizer or primer.

Makeup is all trial and error. However, makeup is not always the problem.

What kind of skin care routine do you use? Like Jamie D explained, makeup always exaggerates texture so if you are not washing your face daily, exfoliating depending on your skin type, and moisturizing before bed as well as before makeup you will not have the "flawless finish" that lasts all day.

Also as Jamie said, use a primer and a setting spray and touch up as necessary. Another thing is for your redness, try using a green concealer under your CC cream. It will mask the redness for a longer period of time due to it being a contrasting color. Lastly, my everyday makeup motto is LESS IS MORE when referring to coverage on the face. If you don't need it in certain spots, don't use it or use extremely lightly. This is very useful when avoiding the cakey look!
