So as some of you know, I got my first ColourPop order yesterday, and wanted to try Donut! I kept my makeup simple. Thoughts?

Covergirl BB cream in fair to light
Stila in the know: desert (over lid, used to blend lower lash), rain (outer v into crease), air (brow and inner corner highlight): ebony (liner)
MUFE Aqua eyes in black (tightline)
Rimmel volume Excelerator mascara in extreme black
UD Gwen blush: OC
**ColourPop matte lip in Donut***
OK, so this color is so nice, but applied patchy, I had to get 2-3 coats to get this opacity. Otherwise, it feels pretty good on my lips. Ill update about wear throughout the day

Oh what a shame that it was patchy, but I have heard that the lighter colors can be like that. It's a lovely color, I thought it would be more "Bang neon" but its much more wearable! Great summer lippie :)

Totally agree Sabrina. I'm thinking I might play around with it and see if I 'white out' my lips with some sort of base if it'll slide on better. Or maybe a nude lip liner all over? It's super pretty though!! I'll probably wear Privacy Please tomorrow. 😃

It looks really nice on you! I'm slightly disappointed they apply patchy 😔 but I guess for $6 I can't complain lol.

@dana I'm hoping the other colors are better. But I'm determined to make this one work!! Maybe mixing it with my Melted Coral? Idk. Anddd I'm noticing that it is flaking 😕

So upset, just took it off cause this look isn't cute.
Anyone have suggestions??

Omg! It got that bad? That's so frustrating

Aw what a shame. did you exfoliate and moisturize your lips before hand?

May 25, 2016

Jackie S.

I know Dana!
Yep Sabrina! I exfoliated with the ELF one, then used my TokyoMilk balm and waited a bit. Idk if it's bc I initially applied 2 coats, waited, then did another. Ugh

Sorry to see that, Jackie. That was my experience with the colourpop ultra mattes as well. But I had heard they were reformulated so I hoped that they had improved. I know it kind of defeats the purpose of the ultra matte but the only way I got ANY use out of mine was to throw a lip balm on top. Makes them a bit glossy but at least it prolonged the wear a tad.

All the reviews I checked said the same : Don't layer it or it will crack and crumble.
That's sad because it really is a pretty color on you!!

Thank you Kristen and Genevieve! I'm going to play around with this color and see if I can make it work! Lol. Hope the other colors as better. Want to keep them as matte as possible... So we shall see.

What a shame Jackie :( Hopefully the other colors are better, I heard the colourpop formula is very hit or miss :(

I had that same experience I honestly never reach for any of them, it's a shame because I also bought a lot of fun summer shades and I can't get any of them to work for me. If you get them to work for you I would love to know.

Maria, I'll keep you posted!!

Thanks Jackie hopefully you figure something out I have 6 of them :(

I have the same problem with the ultra mattes but the ultra satin formula is much better in my opinion I wear marshmallow at least 3 times a week with the matching liner and literally it looks perfect only one coat and it stays all day I've pretty much written my ultra mattes off at this point (:

I just love the fact that they are transfer resistant

I use a lip liner, and also - make sure you are NOT applying too much because it will flake and crumble. If you are the more than one layer type of wearer, make sure your first layer is thin. I apply my lighter colors and limbo on with a lip brush rather than the applicator. Trap did this to me all the time when I first bought it.
I hope this helps!

I forgot to say I dusted hourglass dim light all over too

@Chelle, I do apply thin layers. And only multiple ones with the this one. I'm definitely going to have to experiment.

Mine always seem to do it when I apply more than two layers :/. But I agree, it'll get better through trial and error. on another note, you are seriously pulling off that color lol.

Hahahaha thanks so much Chelle!! 😝

Ugh that'd make me mad. Even though they're relatively cheap, I honestly would email them that pic and maybe a pic with just one thin application showing first off that it needs to be built up like crazy and secondly it looks like that when layered! I'd ask for a refund or exchange tbh. Since they sell only online they shouldn't be selling anything they haven't perfected. Obviously they must know this is an issue but continue to sell it:( Disappointing.

Angela, that's not a bad idea! I'll email customer service after I try the other 2 colors just to make sure it's the one lighter color
