I did NOT achieve what I was aiming for here, but I thought I would post it to see what you guys think anyway. I wanted a striking, cat eye, avante garde look, and it just came out amateur looking to me. Am I my own worst critic? I think it could have been a lot better.
But anyway, key makeup points:
Foundation- KVD and CustomFX drops
Blush- Senna Cheeky Palette
Lips- same as the blush
Eyes: I mixed Unicorn and Punch Fuscia together for the eyeshadow color. Then I just glued on rhinestones from the craft store with duo glue.
Not what I was hoping for, but maybe it doesn't look that bad?

I think the stones should graduate to a smaller size as you come to the inner corner of the eye and going under the eye.

Honestly I think that a smaller sized rhinestone overall would help the look to be more polished. See, for example, the Dior "Techno Butterfly" looks from 2013, those have the same sort of feel you're going for. But, you can see that the smaller rhinestones really give the look a more couture feel, rather than "my best friend going to Ultra Music Festival" you know? (the only reason I say that is because my friend actually does do her makeup like this for EDM concerts)

Omg those are so gorgeous!! Both of you are exactly right. Maybe I should use nail art rhinestones to try that look. I used the smallest ones I had and they were still so big. And Hannah that's EXACTLY how I felt about the look- it looks like a parade-going, anyone can do it, type of look. Not what I wanted. I wanted exactly what you posted. Leave it to Dior. I love that.
Thank you both so much for your feedback! Do you think I should take these pics off my IG page?

I definitely understand, and I'm sure that you can find smaller rhinestones in craft stores or for nail art! Dior does have some gorgeous makeup ideas, that's for sure.

I'm not on Instagram, I don't really know what your profile (or anyone's...) looks like, but I think that if you're not 100% proud of it, then maybe they're not a good representation of the makeup that you do. It's entirely up to you, though!

That's always a tough decision for me. I'm not 100% proud of it, I just hardly have time anymore to post new looks on IG and you know how it is about staying relevant. Maybe I'll go today to get smaller rhinestones and try again so I can have something I am proud of. Thank you both so much for the advice!!  ☺️

Oh! Photography is another problem. I'm taking selfies on my iPhone so I never get that "striking" pic. I literally wander all around my house looking for good light and backgrounds. I have some photography backgrounds in white and black, I just don't have a stand. Hmmm. And the light in my studio works for clients but for taking pics it's all over the place. I need to learn how to use that ridiculously expensive camera my husband bought me that's just sitting in my closet because it was all Greek to me on how to use it!

It did make sense, I think I'll have to read it a few times to let it sink in though. So like, fantasy makeup would be something understandable, but avante garde is more like abstract art? I kinda get it. I do know the two looks you're referring to, those remain my fav looks I've ever done. I was so mad when I found that there's an app that allows people to place the look that's like cross hatched lines on your face, like it allows users to photo shop it on. I got a little upset and I hoped that people could tell by looking at my picture that I actually painted those lines and I didn't use that app.
Ok so I digress; I'm getting the idea that fantasy makeup is pretty makeup or gorey makeup, and avante garde is based on shapes. Have you heard of Danessa Myricks? I love love love the type of makeup artistry she does. If you do know her, what would you call her style?

I'll include a few pics of her work

So wait, I think I get it. Fantasy makeup is meant to be aesthetically pleasing, avante garde is meant to be an emotional expression. Is that close?

I tried sending more pics of Dannesa's work but they aren't posting. I hope the same look doesn't suddenly come through five times in a row. 😳

So like what you would see in movies or plays. I'm getting it. I really think I'm getting it. And avante garde isn't "stylized", it's based on nothing but shapes and emotion? You really are the best.

Ok I think I get it. Shapes is avante garde. Something more specific is fantasy makeup.  Right?

Avante Garde too right? Circles as shape, and she's not anything recognizable. Do I have it?
