Marleen that's a great question!! This would be a great new thread to make (please do so) Jackie & myself have been wanting answers to that question as well. We've always wondered if the masses really understood or knew why they were doing it. :)

Oh my goodness this was such an interesting read! Thank you to everyone for the plethora of information in this thread... It is nice to see that there are some people who are not just blind followers!

Jacqueline, what did you end up doing with your client who wanted that "contoured look" because it's "in"?
Do you get a lot of people asking for it? I wonder how serious makeup artists like you deal with these situations...

Thank you for your answer! It was so interesting to read. It makes sense that you wouldn't want to do it when you know that professional pictures will be taken, and it also makes sense to me that if they're not up to anything MAJOR, if they really really want it, so be it. It's a good balance :)
I would think that covering the mirror would come in handy a lot of the time, especially if the client likes to micro manage. ;)
But the main thing that I think is so important is to have trust in the artist, whether it's a tattoo artist, a hairdresser, a colorist, a makeup artist, you name it. You are allowed to not like your look when it's done but sometimes you just got to let go :D

And I apologize for the slight deviation in the conversation, I was just too intrigued!

Alma, Great idea on another post! I just posted a new one. Concealer vs foundation for highlighting & contouring.
