I have made an appointment to get my hair colored next friday, and this is the color I am going for!

Is there something I should do to prep for bleaching? And how can I keep this color looking it's best? Do DIY purple shampoos actually work? And what is your favorite purple shampoo? While I can't buy any now, I will be ordering some on my next trip to the states.

If you have any other tips for caring for bleached blonde hair, I would love to hear them!

Do not use any heat products like curl iron, straighter, etc.before and after your appointment for the next few days. I suggest washing and conditioning your hair the night before your appointment.

Using heat before or after really won't make a difference. if your hair is dry then do a conditioning treatment or hot oil treatment. ask the salon if they use olaplex.

Kelly I was just saying not to just to give your hair a rest after bleaching. Bleaching your hair damages your hair bad and using heat right after makes it worse

I got my hair bleached twice so far (not as much as you are going to though). The first time I got a complementary deep conditioning treatment at the hair salon and it felt like my hair wasn't damaged at all from getting it bleached. The second time I didn't get such a treatment and my hair is sooo much worse this time. I feel that treatment must have made such a difference and the next time I will get it done again. Unfortunately I don't know what it was called or anything but maybe your hair stylist could point you in the right direction. :)

Don't wash your hair before your appointment. The natural oils can protect your scalp. Other than that you should just get some leave in oils and conditioners, and some heavy masks since your hair will be dry.

Thank you so much Hailey! The DIY shampoo did seem a little fishy, I am so happy I asked so I don't end up staining my hair!!

Diy purple shampoo is fine if you use a veggie dye. I use it and make it for myself and quite a few of my friends and family. It just takes a regular shampoo or white conditioner and some purple dye. Manic panic ultra violet is my personal favorite, its a blue based purple which helps cancel out orange tones better than just purple. You only use a tiny bit of dye. I usually do a teaspoon of dye per bottle of conditioner/shampoo. I will usually pull up a color wheel and hold it up next to my hair and match up the color and find the opposite color, tone included and make the mix the exact color. It works better than store bought because it's mixed together to your exact tone. I also find being able to put it in conditioner helps make it more of a mask.

I've heard of people who go to salons with their hair soaked in coconut oil from the night before so that the bleach doesn't damage as much. I've bleached my own hair before and have tried this method. No,the bleaching processs is not affected because of the oil and Yes, I did feel that my hairwas less brittle and dry when wet. Maybe you should ask your stylist if you can do this.

Be careful with coconut oil and bleach, it can cause it to be patchy and can make the bleach even more unpredictable than it already is. Since it'll have to eat through the oil as well as your natural oils and bleach the actual hair. You cannot make sure it's coated evenly so some areas will be bleached more/less than others potentially causing it to be uneven.

I've done it with having coconut oil in and without, there's really no difference on the damage. It just makes the bleach slower, unpredictable and may not bleach evenly and makes you keep it on longer. I had coconut oil on when I got my roots done and we had to keep the bleach on 25 minutes longer and I got burns on my scalp from the bleach. Without coconut oil I don't get burns from it being on a long time and my hair isn't any noticeably healthier. The bleach came out patchy, some areas came out white while others stayed orange and had to be spot bleached again. Bleach isn't that damaging when done right (depending on your hair too) and it really didn't make a difference on my hair. I'd just do an oil treatment afterwards.
