It depends on what kind of skin you have (oily, normal, dry etc.), how much coverage you are looking for, what finish (matte, dewy, natural, etc.), and how you are applying the product. Knowing exactly what you have in mind for your skin is key in getting the perfect foundation for you. Personally, I love MAC. I have tried ssoooo many different kinds of foundations and powders and such out there and I always find myself going back to MAC. But that is just my experience.
I like MAC! Their lipsticks and eyeshadows and makeup brushes are really good! I haven't tried their foundations though, I don't think I ever will because I've heard bad things about them too lol I use foundation from Tarte, it's natural and good for your skin and I've never broken out from them <3
I don't dislike MAC, but I had discovered there are far better products out there, both more expensive and cheaper. I was a total MAC groupie and wouldn't veer away from it, just because of the 'brand'. Personally, I feel several of their products are overpriced and ineffective in comparison to other brands out there. I do LOVE LOVE LOVE the Mineralize SkinFinish and will pay $100 for it if I had to! I think there's a dupe for nearly everything they offer, though.
Is MAC worth the money? It depends. A few years ago MAC could do no wrong with me. They put out quality product,, and kept their line pretty straightforward. Nowadays, that simply is not the case. MAC has over saturated their own line with all of these 'new', and mostly useless repackaging 'collections'. Back in the day, if MAC released a new product, there was a point, and a rhyme and reason to it. Trying every new product they have nowadays is tantamount to playing Russian Roulette with your money and your face.
Here are my favorite MAC products: The Blot Powder, Strobe Cream, their eye shadows, lipsticks and lip liners. The only foundation from MAC that I like is the Studio Sculpt, and that's it.
If you want a quality foundation, I suggest Make Up For Ever's Mat Velvet or their HD foundation. The Mat Velvet is a full coverage foundation that's best suited to someone who's skin is on the oily side. The HD foundation provides medium to full coverage with a more natural dewy finish. Both of these foundations, in my opinion, are far superior to any MAC foundation being offered today.
I am in love with there lipsticks, by far my favorite for years. I love there lip liners as well. And the fluid line ESP the p.m. shades are among my faves as well. I like there mineralized bronzes and brushes as well. But the foundation IM really not a fan.
I have the foundation/concealer/powder from MAC...They work great.I also used the Prep+Prime which is very good.I have 3 great face-brushes...I also own a few lipsticks...nothing special though...I had the gel-liner which got dryied in 1 month...So...I guess is about luck...:/...

I like mac. I don't see what the big deal is. If you want foundation though I would go with Makeup Forever HD. It's GREAT!
