It could. Imagine taking a Clarisonic and massaging very hard into the skin. It could tear the skin too. The same as scrubbing the thick scrub hard into the face. Some skins are also more sensitive and delicate than others. I don't like St Ives because it doesn't work for me. I prefer Neutrogena's Acne Stress Control scrub and I don't have acne. I massage lightly onto my skin in the shower then leave on for 5-10 minutes like a masque.

Yes the scrubbing particles in SIAS aren't smooth and round they are jagged and cut the skin on a microscopic level...just because you can't see the cuts doesn't mean they aren't ruining your skin

Microdermabrasion cuts the skin at a microscopic level, dermoplaning does it at an even deeper level and both make the skin look better, not worse. Chemical exfoliants like retinol or acids do too.

I use the st.ives green tea scrub. using a gentle scrub once a week that removes dead skin cells will help your skin.. not hurt it, you dont want to leave the dead skin on your face... would you ?
