I'm starting makeup school next month and I need to find a good set of brushes. Do you suggest synthetic or natural brushes? Also what brands do you suggest?
I love my MAC brushes, they are well worth the money. I'm not sure if they're synthetic or not. Smashbox makes great goat hair brushes that last! I've had both for years. Just care for them with Mac brush cleanser and condition them with a quality conditioner.
I personally enjoy synthetic brushes more.
Actually, I would recommend a mixture of both. Synthetic bristles work best for liquid and cream-based cosmetics whereas natural hair brushes (sable, goat, squirrel, etc) may be preferable for powder application, blending, etc). You will probably find you will develop your own preferences for certain brushes as your technique becomes more personalized. As far as brands go, personally I don't stick to one particular line. I find I have a lot of favorites in MAC, Sephora Professional, a couple of Sonia Kashuk. and a few that I purchased at an art supply store (Loew-Cornell). If you're looking to purchase a bunch of them at one time, I would suggest Sigma brushes. They are good quality and have a huge variety to choose from.
Congrats on starting school next month. I would totally recommend the silk line brushes from Royal & Langnickel. They are the leading brush manufacture and have AMAZING quality brushes for affordable prices.

Olivia I'm with you! Royal & Langnickel are great! Also investigate Crown - they are totally affordable & they have seasonal & holiday sales frequently!
ECO TOOLS ARE THE BEST!
And Vanessa - Pixie has a point - as you develop as an artist you'll want certain brushes for certain applications! Best of luck & have fun!
Yep I'm with pixie t. I use synthetic brushes for my cream ad any wet products and natural hair for my powders. Generally.

Well you need both. For example you can only use synthetic to apply your foundation that way the product wont soak into the brush hairs. Sigma sells both synthetic and goat hair brushes

Pixie said it best. You need both in my opinion. Certain one's for certain things.
