So I'm about 4 months pregnant right now, and I figured I should probably wait until after I have my baby before I bleach my hair but I kinda want the look now since we're heading into summer. My hair is naturally light to medium brown though and last year when I bleached my tips it only took one round, if it's a one time thing do you think the chemicals would do any harm? Just curious. I'm really inching for this change, but of course the safety of my baby means more to me than my hair. Thanks!

It depends on what your doctor says. Some say yes, some say no, so I can't help but think that it's yes and no with the doctors because of how healthy or unhealthy the pregnant woman is. I'm not sure. My doctor told me that it was an absolutely horrid idea, so therefore, I couldn't. Then again, I had a few health issues. But your doctor may say otherwise.

Ok good to know. I'll have to ask my doctor at my next appointment. It is always confusing when some doctors say yes and some say no to things, but I never thought of it being more about the specific patient and less about their personal opinion. I'll try to remember that point of view. :) thanks!

I wouldnt suggest bleaching your hair while pregnant since even using dye is unhealthy

I would not think it's a good idea with all the chemicals, however, my doctor told me that even though I am a high risk pregnancy I could dye my hair, no bleach. They said to use a ventilated area. So ask your doc at the next appointment and see what they say :)

I wouldn't risk it, because even tho some may say yes, they used to say smoking while pregnant was good. I would just try a more chemical free route, try lemons in the sun (I don't know what they say about sun exposure) or even that "sun in" product would be better than bleach. But that's just my opinion!

It is fine to bleach your hair we get pregnant clients all the time. It's not suggested to do so because the fumes can be very strong and depending on how sensitive you are it may make you sick ( nausea, head ache...) but keep in mind your hormones are different right now which will effect the outcome of your color. It may not lighten at all or it may lighten way more than it normally would, it's very unpredictable. Same thing when it's that time of the month.

Thanks everyone! I'll probably ask my dr and see what he says but even then I'll probably just wait to be 100% sure. I also didn't even think about the possible change in my hair and it taking differently too. Better safe than sorry right? :) Maybe I'll just get my hair cut for a fun change instead!

Your skin absorbs 60% of what you put on it so my mum never dyed her hair when she was pregnant because the dye would get on her scalp and she didn't want any of the chemicals absorbed into her body. Maybe look at the oilia dyes (can't remember what brand sorry but Google can help you with that) they don't have ammonia or heaps of bad stuff in them so they might be safe.
