I'm sure this gets asked all the time but I'm desperate for some help. I really want to do makeup for a living. Not full time but just a little job to bring some extra income in. I have done a couple of basic courses but I can't afford to go and do a year or 2 long course, plus I have two young sons. Can anyone give me some advice on what I need to do to get started? Also when I do peoples makeup I find it hard to capture it on camera..what do people use to get it to show really well?? Thanks so much.

Hi Nicole. The pro makeup career is an amazing one, especially for someone like yourself who may be looking for a part time opportunity while you raise your kids. These are big questions you ask and a short course in makeup artistry from a pro perspective would be great for you as a starting point. But Facebook groups like The Powder Group Events, So You Want To Be A Makeup Artist, and Glossible are a great way to start learning more. TPG also offers a Makeup 101 program (July in NYC) if that suits your needs. You can reach me directly at Michael (at) thepowdergroup.com Welcome to Pro Makeup!
