Do not take biotin unless you have a deficiency as it can cause serious health problems. Please consult a physician and have tests done before taking any as they can seriously mess you up and I don't think its worth it. Hair grows as it grows just take care of it as well as your nails its all down to genetics.

Taking biotin or any pills without taking a blood test to see if your deficient is incredibly dangerous. If you're on even a semi healthy diet you're most likely getting enough biotin from your food. As someone who has overdosed on biotin when I was younger, please do not just go out and take pills. Just because they're sold in stores does not mean you should take them without consulting a doctor. Taking any vitamins, especially biotin can lead to very bad side effects that defeat the point of taking them fit nice hair like hair loss, hair dryness, nail weakness, skin issues like permanent breakouts, dehydration etc, not to mention the lethal ones like kidney failure, liver failure, heart palpitations and more. Read these threads for even more reasons why you should NOT take biotin or any other pills just because someone on the Internet said it's okay.

The ladies above are correct. Just because someone you know has taken it and had no problems doesn't mean it'll be the same for you. Consult your doctor before taking on any new pills or vitamins.

Everyone has differing opinions about it. I have done my research & it is a water soluble so you pee out the excess. I take it but I also am as healthy as a horse & rarely get sick, have reactions, etc. But it wouldn't hurt you to ca a doctor first.

If you do take it, it is not effective unless you drink a lot of water.

I've taken it and have not had any problems, but everyone will react differently

If you do take it before getting your levels tested, it won't work, period. It only works for its intended reasons, for DEFICIENCY.

I've gotten no levels tested and it has been working for my sister and me just fine.
I also take a multivitamin daily with no levels tested either. They only way it will cause damage is when you get into excessive levels where the body can no longer naturally flush it out.
If you don't use Biotin that's fine but don't discourage someone else from looking further into it.
All I'm saying Joanna is to read up on it first and if you have anymore questions then to call a few doctors to get opinions.

Again jasmine. As someone who has overdosed on Flintstone vitamin amount of biotin, go get tested. Seriously this is your health, isn't it worth the time to get a blood test done then get side effects (which can be so bad they cause organ failure and can lead to death)? I mean really, there's zero point arguing about it. It's science. There's a risk to this. It's written on the bottle for a reason. Lucky you that you didn't get any side effects yet, but you could and plenty others have. So don't just get defensive and wipe it off as silly for us to warn people.

Again, that's why I looked into and take far less than the recommended amount considering you get most of the vitamin from food.
And how am I writing it off as silly to warn people when I clearly stated she could call doctors and ask for opinions??
To me it seems everyone loves to argue on here instead of agreeing to disagree, especially when it comes to this same topic.
I'm done, bye.

This is science, not personal opinion. I'm arguing because people's health is on the line when people bring up these topics like they're candy and they're perfectly safe. They aren't. They are made for deficiencies. Which on even a semi healthy diet you're likely getting enough of.
