First of all am not sure where to categorize this one so my apologies if I am categorizing it wrong.
M planning to take laser hair removal in my underarms area. Has anybody else got it done? My concern is that is it safe? Someone told me that it can increase the chances of skin cancer but my derma said its not true.
Need your opinion girls

I'm interested in this too. Been thinking about doing my upper lip for a while but I've heard horror stories that darker skin people tend to get burns and I'm half black, so I'm a bit wary. Would love some feed back too.

I haven't personally gotten any laser treatments but one of my best friends did. She had her bikini area done, it took a few sessions I believe. She was so happy with the results and said that it didn't really hurt at all either. She is Caucasian so I don't think she had to worry about the skin darkening thing.

I had a Brazilian and upper lip done. It REALLY hurts, but it's SO worth it. Money well spent. I don't think there is info to show it causes skin cancer and I've never heard that. It does take many treatments (like 5-6) and you have to make sure they are spaced about 4-6 weeks apart. So it's a long process. Worth it for me though!

I had my underarms, upper lip, sides of face, chin and neck done. Best decision I ever made regarding hair removal! I am tanned and it worked perfectly on my skin tone. Do make sure the machine is not outdated though. Also, if you are getting the face done you should be very particular about using a high factor spf or else it can cause pigmentation. It didn't even hurt when I got it done. :)

The cancer angle...nothing but a silly myth. I haven't had it done myself but I know plenty of folks that have had the procedure and its a long process so one cannot expect a one day miracle. Also there is a slim chance that even after you have the series of treatments that the hair could come back. Its rare but its possible.

@Sharifa...yes...you have every reason to be concerned since you are biracial. A Yag laser is used on individuals of color. The one that comes to mind is the Cutera Xeo Cool Glide platform. I saw a training video on this one when I was shafted in going to a dermo conference with an aunt who is a dermatologist. Just be sure to be very blunt and ask if they have worked on people of color in regards to Yag...such as how to treat it post treatment and how to properly address anything that should arise because skin reactions are not uncommon.
