I recently bought myself some liquid latex and nose & scar wax! I've been playing around with them and thought I'd post my first two adventures with them
This was the first one I tried, and I used liquid latex, scar wax, Ben Nye bruise wheel, fake blood from a Halloween store, and Q-tips!
I'm very very new to this, so any advice or even requests would be awesome!

Adding to Jacqueline's comment, the appearance of a wound will vary depending on when it was inflicted (pre-, peri-, or post-mortem).
Your sewn on hand can easily be turned into a post-mortem look with some changes to the color of your skin and the wound, and the addition of some minor details (veins get darker due to coagulation, etc).
The best thing you can do is look at references of real trauma, not other makeup. Look in medical resources, anatomy textbooks, etc. for real images of what you are trying to recreate. If you're trying to go for zombie looks, visiting a body farm is an absolutely amazing reference to understand how the body changes over time and in different conditions after death. It's not an easy thing to see (or smell) but it seriously helps. Otherwise, just look at photographs of real wounds and work on understanding what happens to the body during trauma.
Also a little note: not all SFX is gore. If you have aspirations of doing this professionally, don't forget to practice fantasy, old age, creature, etc. If you want to get really complicated, you can mix multiple types (e.g. gore and alien) which will help you think about how different bodies/creatures react in different situations (for example, what would bruising look like on a creature with cobalt-based blood instead of human iron-based blood). Lots of room for experimentation and lots of things to research.

Thanks for the advice, Emily! I'll definitely have to start studying real wounds and trauma so I can get better at this. I'll start trying other types of makeup, too :)
