When you ask to get your hair thinned at the salon, what do they do to make it thinner?

No I wouldn't say it gives you layers but it does make some hairs short I wouldn't get your hair thinned though thick hair is lovely!

Yeah, they just run through it with a thinning comb. It's hardly noticeable what it does to your hair, other than the fact that it'll feel much lighter and look more, well, thin. Lol. I'd opt for layer personally if I was going for thinner hair because atleast it adds some volume.

Yeah pretty much what Charlotte and Renay said. I have super thick hair and so normally when I get my hair cut ( which is about 1-2 times a year) I get it thinned , but last time I got my hair cut I didn't and my hair is now just really heavy even though I have layers so hair elastics aren't really my friend haha

When a stylist thins your hair it is just cutting some pieces shorter than others which makes it appear thinner and feel lighter. Thinning hair is great for some people but it is not for everyone. If it is not done correctly you will look like you have a lot of flyaways. The thinning shears are not only used to thin but they can also be used to add texture and volume to hair, if used correctly. I am a licensed cosmetologist and I have so many clients with different needs some just want there hair thinned others want more volume some want more texture and dimension, you can achieve all of these with "thinning shears".

If yout stylist knows what they are doing there are many ways to thin out hair I learned in beauty school. I have curly hair and would personally never thin out my hair.
