So I'm pretty sure buy now everyone has heard strobing. It's all the craze and supposed to be the hottest trend right now the contouring without the contour. So we can expect strolling kits and other items labeled strobe in the upcoming future. I wanted to know what do you ladies think about this. I've personally technically has been already doing that I remember even in the past couple of months asking here on Beautylish could you highlight without the contour and if so is there a term for it and basically everybody said no its not possible you can't do such a thing you can't highlight without contouring it will look stupid ect. ect. Now here we go a few months forward and this is the thing. Add your feedback ladies.

I agree Danica, on some people it does look oily. But, on others it can look good if done right. In my opinion it looks like something that if it is subtle it has a better overall look than if it is in your face bright. To each her own.

Personally I feel it's just a new spin on an old concept. But then again I never really got into contouring, I have always felt that contouring just looks dirty. Lol I have done a few roofing side jobs and by the end of the day all the dirt looks the same as if I just used a contouring product on my face. But don't worry about my opinion, I'm sure a few weeks or months from now all the instagram people will be obsessing over strobing. Another trend I have never understood is the ombre hair dye, when I was little we use to call it severely over grown roots, or in dire need of a touch up. But just like all fads and trends, this too shall pass.

Its been around for ages so I haven't fallen for the hype myself. If one looks at the history of makeup artistry highlighting was being done as far back as the '40's...thinking of black and white photography. To give dimension to the face and make features stand out artist used products as basic as Vaseline. Good old Vaseline.lol

Then Kevin Aucoin, the king of highlighting in my opinion, took off with the concept. Its kinda disappointing that all these YTubers/social media gurus do not give credit to the true masters and instead us consumers treat these folks as gods/godesses. My daughter actually does more highlighting on her clients than contouring...she taught me that I have a natural contour and to just play it up with blush and highlighter. And the same could be done on many other women with the right product and brush. I love highlighting.

I honestly have no idea why strobing has gotten so popular, especially since Shelley has pointed out that it's been done for ages. If you want to highlight without contouring or if you have natural features that don't need to be contoured, just highlighted, that's great to, but don't pretend like you invented an entirely new technique and rave about it like its the newest and most amazing makeup trick ever. It's overly hyped to me.

I totally agree with Shelley. I never like contouring. I always ended up looking crazy. so I would just only highlight to enhance what I'm working with.

Like Shelley said it's been around for ages. It's just a marketing thing, they name it so they can produce a product. Like the last drag makeup /"highlighting and contouring" trend, that's been around forever. But because of social media, it was as if contouring was some new thing and thats the same with strobing.

I personally love strobing especially compared to the drag makeup, but it needs to be done right. I have seen so many makeup artists following the trend, doing it on their clients and it looks awful. They are highlighting to the point where their whole entire face is shiny. When it is done right, it makes the skin look natural, healthy and luminous. Overall, it's just a trend in six months time it will be some new thing that's actually been around forever.

Marketing at it's best summer time meets summer time strobe lol add a new name and people go crazy for a so called stobe product. I agree with Shelley completely ;) You know it got me wondering was the name spread from just someone using a Mac strobe cream and they thought Hey mac strobe + face=strobing... Old tricks need to get the credit they deserve.

I personally find contouring very fake for every day wear. So I instinctively did what is now called strobing for the last 3 years...
