I've had acne for 3 year and it has gotten worse in the last months. My doctor prescribed me Accutane (I'm currently in the 1 month period to ensure I'm not pregnant). I was just wondering if any of you had gone on this medication and your experience. I have tried many other topicals and antibiotics but nothing has seemed to cure my acne completely.

My sister did it. I don't want to scare you away from it but she did become depressed and irritable while on it and she also got super dry lips. But she stuck with it and it worked. At the end of it all she had completely clear skin. Obviously, not everyone will have those symptoms, but its something to be aware of if you have tendencies toward depression or anxiety. I hope it all goes well for you :)

I'm on it right now. I'm not even close to an expert though so answers you won't get from me haha. I'm currently about to be on it for a month and the first week nothing happened. Second week I broke out terribly. Third week my face and mouth is as dry as the Sahara desert. I haven't had mood swings or aches or any of the other side effects. I got a bit of dandruff, nothing that wasn't fixable. It hasn't made much approvement but then again, it does take time. My advice is to just stay calm because I freaked out when I saw the massive amount of pimples on my face. It will be worth it in the end believe me.
Moisturize and stay hydrated.

I took it for 6-9 months and it completely cleared the acne I had had for 7 years. BUT while on it it gave me severe back pain which a masseuse later suggested could have been muscle deterioration from the medication. Even after stopping the treatment, I continued to have the pain and I broke out completely just 3 months after it cleared me. The back pain if caused was not worth another session, so I simply stopped and turned to a natural regime, which has worked for me better than any medication. Would never recommend accutane to anyone.

Ps. My mom's close friend also took the medication as an adult and suffered back pain as well, so I do not consider my experience to just be a fluke.
