Wow is it tough! I have one thing I love that works- bare MInerals Complexion Rescue...but using, for example, Color IQ- doesn't always work- I want to try the Estee Lauder Double Wear and it doesn't show up. How do you do this? I just started wearing makeup six weeks ago at age 61 and it is a mystery... the one I bought seems slightly wrong but I do not have the knowledge to even know which direction to work in...

Let the ladies at the makeup counter help you...they can apply the foundation and find the right color.

Use findation.com and see if a match comes up! Also, when you're in store, see about swatching a few shades on your jaw to see a comparison of the shades and see which color suits you best. Personally I don't find the Color IQ to be that accurate, last time I did it I got matched with the second lightest shade of most foundations when in reality I am definitely not that pale.

I wear the Ginger- so sorry I did not say that! I have a kind of mediterranean complexion- not darkly so- have been assessed to have a yellow undertone and I swear my veins seem blue green lol... I tan easily though I do burn too.

Miss Jacqueline to the rescue! She is actually great at picking out shades just from looking at your photo and knowing your undertones - she perfectly matched me with my MUFE mat velvet shade :)

1) do not trust that color iq thing it doesn't really at all!!
My friend got mached with a nars foundation that was too damn light for her and she told me that they said to her "it was a perfect match"
2) don't trust those workers either.
Some of them don't really know what they're even talking about. I walked in there and they weren't very informative with the products they carry.
3) ask for sample of at least 2 foundations.
I went earlier this week to sephora with a friend of mine and we asked for 2 samples of the urban decay naked foundation. 1 that was very close to her color and a slightly darker one. We can then really see which one works better.
Also, the lighting in there sucks @ss. So samples it is.
4) keep this in mind: rarely will there be a foundation that is spot on for you, unless you get it customized.
I'm going back to sephora for the urban decay foundation but I'm getting 7.0 & 8.0 because 8 is slightly too dark for me so I can customize it whenever I want.
I understand it's too much money but it's worth it.
