Prom dress code question.

My prom is this Saturday and today at school they made everyone sign a dress code agreement. I think I'm okay, but it said no bare or exposed midriff. My dress has like a sheer fabric around the midriff but most of it is covered in jewels. The dress also pretty much matches my skin well enough that you don't really notice that it's see through. Do you think this is acceptable? I don't really have any other options as I already paid over 500 for the dress and can't return it. I also think the school should've stated the rules a long time ago before everyone already purchased their dresses so I'm pretty mad about that.

Do you have a picture?

I have the one from the website. The model has a lot darker skin tone than I do so the sheerness is definitely a lot more noticeable

I think you should ask the school since it's their dress code. Wouldn't want all of us to say it's fine and the school say it's not.

I think if I ask they'll say no but at the actual event they won't say anything or even notice. I guess I just wanted opinions on how obvious it is

Well there's the possibility that if they see you at prom they can kick you out for not following their rules, especially if you've signed an agreement. People have been kicked out of school events for all kinds of different dress code violations.

I agree with Alexis, multiple girls were kicked out of my prom due to not following dress code. It's pretty obvious to me unless your skin is like the same color as the dress haha.

That's true, thank you. I just wish they would have told us earlier since now the only kind of dress I can afford will be cheap and I won't have time for alterations

You probably could find something like a panel that you could put under the sheer material.

I would find something to go underneath rather than buy a new dress. Like a strapless onesie type thing.

Can you guys help me find something like that? I don't know where to start to look haha

Haha no clue. Maybe Amazon? You'd have to pay for faster delivery though.

Maybe you can take it to a tailor to line the inside of the sheer part of the dress?

While I agree with possibly getting a panel for it, I also say your happiness and self confidence come first. I know if my school tried to pull that on me, I'd still wear what I wanted and how I wanted, as would my classmates. I'd rather feel beautiful and break a rule than feel ugly and waste all of the money/effort that I put into that night. If you wouldn't feel comfortable with the panel underneath, tell them to screw right off and wear the dress how you want to. You'll be stunning no matter what, but especially if you're happy with yourself :) Good luck Dear!!

I agree with Tessandra, but she could possibly be kicked out of prom and it'll really be a total waste.

I completely agree with tessandra.

I'd check into getting it tailored like Sara said, that would be the smart thing to do, rather than going and getting kicked out. Rules are rules and although I do agree that they should've stated the rules earlier than they did, they're still rules and it's a privilege for them to be able to throw a prom for the students, the least they could do is follow the rules.

I completely understand that she might get kicked out, and if she's okay with the tailoring/panel then definitely go for that so there's no room for possible problems with the school. But if she's not happy and if she doesn't feel beautiful, then in my mind it was a wasted effort and a waste of time even going. This might just be me but I'd rather get kicked out knowing I look/feel good/beautiful rather than stay and sit in a corner feeling like I'm not attractive with what I'm wearing. That could totally just be me, and I completely understand and agree with what you're saying @Shanae, I just thought I'd state what I'd do lol :)

Thank you all so much. I decided just to take a picture of me in the dress to my school today and ask anyone over the rules. If they say no I'll do what Sara suggested

Btw this is a really awkward picture because the dress was twisted weirdly but this is how my skin tone looks with it

I think they will still be able to tell if it's see through. Check out some place like fabric land, or o straight to an alterations place an tell them your situation.

Update: I was freaking out for nothing. They approved the dress:)
