I use a primer I got from a drugstore so it's not God knows what. But it still does wonders sometimes. It usually helps my redness go away and my acne is covered way better. My foundation never looked cakey so I can't say anything about primers making a difference. It depends for everyone, it took me some time to find the one I actually liked, so keep looking :D.

I have really oily skin and I never use a primer everyday. I don't notice a difference.. as much as I want to lol.

I also use the Rimmel Stay Matte Primer and it works really well it makes a difference for me because I have extremely oily skin and some opening pores from acne.

Honestly, since you say you layer, here's the most important tip: LET IT SIT! Before applying another layer. Another important thing is, if you layer, do NOT apply too much product.. You need to start off in small, and should continue in small, with the product. If you slather it on at first, and then slather another layer, and then use a different product whilst doing the same thing, it will look cakes because you're not giving it time to set fully. Then it'll just look like a bunch of product is sitting on the skin, rather than blending in with it.

Also, do your foundation and concealer at the same, so apply your concealer and foundation on one side and blend it in, then immediately set with powder (pat, don't use strokes) ESPECIALLY areas that crease right away. Then do the other side, then forehead, then chin, etc, it helps to work in sections.

As for primer, personally, I don't notice a difference other than the smoothing effect it has on my skin

I see a difference when I use a primer, I definitely gets a more flawless application - but as most know I use bb creams and not foundation! So I might not be of much help!

I use the Rimmel Fix and Perfect primer and I like it very much, it's around 60-70kr, but Matas have sales on Rimmel pretty often :)

Not sure about you youngins, but as an older woman, a primer is a must! I have definitely noticed a difference. I put it on my forehead, nose, under my eyes, and my cheeks. In my opinion, it has helped to diminish the look of wrinkles, fine lines, and large pores. I use one from Kryolan that I really like. The point of the primer is basically to create a "smooth surface" for all the makeup coming afterwards. It helps stop foundation from settling into fine lines and wrinkles, for instance.

It helps my skin not get so oily and also my makeup goes on so much smoother with primer.
I like Mary Kay foundation primer best
But hourglass veil mineral is amazing, just more
 expensive

I definitely notice a difference when I use primer. Smoothes my skin and pores, mattifies and helps with longevity. I use lancome la base pro, smashbox original photo finish or smashbox pore minimizing primer. Love all of them.

I always use primer. it helps me with redness, pores, and helps my make up stay on all day. I have one by lancome for matte finish and one by Chanel for a glow finish depending on what I want.

I use the green primer from smashbox because it helps with my redness and gives my skin a little bit more moisture

I always use primer, I definitely notice a difference in my application when I'm not wearing it.

For me primer makes a huge difference! Especially when it comes to stopping the foundation from settling in my pores and it lasting all day. I like the L'oreal pore vanisher and Smashbox pore filling primer.

The Smashbox primer is my favorite. I can very clearly see a difference between when I use it and when I don't. I bought a new foundation a couple of months ago and tried it on its own, and I was getting ready to return it because it didn't last more than 4 hours. I put my primer on underneath it and I haven't had a problem with it since. Stays all day at work, rain or shine.
