Hi. Can anyone share any information about the La Mer brand. I've been assigned to that counter at Nordstrom and am doing some research. I had told them MAC but they thought I was more suitable for this brand. I know naught about it but I'm excited to learn. I would appreciate any tips ladies. Thank you.

You're going to be dealing with high-end clientele right off the top. I personally have some issues with their background history but I'm not going to focus on that. I personally use a few of their products. I was gifted both the lip balm and cleansing gel. Great stuff but very pricey. To really come off as genuine and knowledgeable about the line is to actually use some of products yourself so you can give a first person opinion. Plus, your counter manager should have some training guides on hand for you to learn about the entire product line up. The age range is geared specifically towards the 35 and up age but overall anyone can use the line. What I like about the lip balm is that it does not come across looking greasy on the lips. I usually reach for at night and sometimes during the day before application of matte lippie. A lil bit truly goes a long way. The gel cleanser is great but its basic. Doesn't leave my skin feeling super tight. I just received that one recently and only used it three times thus far. Congrats on gaining a spot with Nordies. I worked with the company years ago and I loved it. It never felt like a "job".

I know the moisturizing cream has a cult following & is super expensive. Your clientele that shops this brand is not afraid to drop serious $ on their skin care which will benefit you if it's commission based. I haven't upgraded to this level of spending yet, but from what I've seen, I'm not a fan of the jar packaging.

Thank you ladies. Yes Shelley I think using the product is the only way to get familiar with it and will be my method. I'll be using the samples provided.

Shelley what's your issue with their background? I've only read the story regarding the inventor.

That its basically a PR/marketing stunt to get users on board based off this doctor using it on burn patients (supposedly himself was the first person to try it as they claimed he developed it). And the ingredients just aren't up to par to creams currently on the market that claim the same results. The original formula contains mineral oil which for some folks is break-out central. For the same price as the smallest jar that is sold I know of 10 others that contain more aggressive ingredients that are on the level of medical grade (which dives deeper into the skin). Now I've seen where the La Mer cream has been a true benefit for some people (those who have no adverse reaction to the mineral oil and is dealing with advanced aging skin) but for a majority its something to tread carefully with. I must say it does make for a great body cream and cuticle/hand cream. But don't let what I say discourage you from selling it to your clients. I know they did release an oil-free version of the cream which would work fine with your oily skin clients needing hydration.

Thank you. I did read an article saying pretty much the same thing.

I'm sorry this isn't exactly an answer to your question, but do you mind me asking what they pay for counter work? I'm considering applying at Dillard's (which I know the pay will be less than Nordstrom but just ballpark) in the makeup department and I want to know if the pay is worth it before I bother.

Nordstrom pay is much better than with Dillards and how they handle employees with outside obligations (family and school) is 100x's better than Dillards.

For cosmetics you get a fixed pay and 3% salary. I got a great offer. It's not as much as an RN but it's enough that I was willing to accept the job. You should apply Kathryn.
