Hi beauties so I've had black hair for the longest. I had box dyed my hair a medium brown when I was in high school and after have been dying it black. The last time I dyed it was about 6 months ago. So basically I want a new color. I definitely plan on going to a professional. I just wanted to be aware of what the process might be. Would I be bleaching my hair? After care? Etc. any help is appreciated. Also do you think any of these colors would suit me? Thanks!

I don't know you'll need bleach or not, but if so hairmasks are your new best friend. argon oil is great to apply before styling. I do coconut oil mask once a week. And a deep conditioner every shower. now you might not need to do as much as I do because I went from box dyed (permanent) black hair to the blonde I am now so my hairs been bleached a lot and dead. but this is what I do. hope it helps

I think ombre would suit you. But honestly I love your black hair. It ties your makeup skin and hair all together beautifully.

I use this in the shower after I condition my ends as a deep conditioner. I got it at Burlington. I leave it in for about 5 mins and rinse. I like it. :)

It can also be used as an "in salon" deep conditioner. put it in your wet hair. heat for 3-5 mins (I use my hairdryer) then let cool for 3-5 mins ans rinse. I did that yesterday and added a little coconut oil too and my hair feels sooo soft.

That ombré will look really nice and since you have black hair they will most likely have to use bleach.

Thanks Cierra! I'll definitely look into it! :)

Thanks Gabby. I figured I would have to :( I'll just make sure to take good care of it!

For ombré they'll most likely have to use bleach, it's definitely damaging. But, as long as you take care of your hair it shouldn't be bad. Don't wash your hair everyday, once every two days and if your hair gets oily fast, every other day. Any conditioner you use, let it sit for 3-5 min and go easy with heat products so hair doesn't completely fry. Hair masks also work amazingly. I think 3 and 4 are really nice too :)

Bleach will be needed but keep in mind that black is the hardest color to lift out and it may not be as light as you want it. if your going for a dark brown base that may not happen. either since color won't lift color. your stylist should inform you of all this. the bleach should not damage your hair too bad since it is used In a controlled environment and professional bleach is better quality. ask your stylist to recomended a good shampoo and conditioner to you. also a leave In conditioner would be good too.

Thanks Kelly!! I'm still debating it! But I'll definitely make sure to do plenty of research first!

So I'm not a professional but I did box dye my hair black for a while. They will need to use bleach. When I had my hair lightened I had stopped using box dye for about a year and a half and was getting my hair professionally dyed black. You could actually see the point where I stopped using box dye when my stylist bleached my hair. Box dye is harsh and hard to lift. Unfortunately, you might not be able to go to a lighter brown. I wasn't able to. And you might not be able to do an ombré because the ends of your hair probably have been colored more and have more to lift. That's what happened to me. My stylist is extra careful about damage though, so she doesn't do anything that might risk the integrity of my hair.
