Oil Pulling is a method I use to keep my teeth white, especially after drinking dark liquids.

I recommend using Coconut Oil to do your oil pulling, but there are other alternatives. *WARNING* It sounds a little gross, it's absolutely worth it though lol.

Just melt down a spoonful of Coconut Oil, pour it into your mouth. Do not swallow, just swish it around for at least 15 minutes. The best time to oil pull is in the morning, with nothing on your tummy. After the 15 mins wash, dispose of the oil in the shower or toilet, not the sink it could possibly clogged the pipes.

Brush your teeth afterwards. Here's a link of all the benefits Oil Pulling consists of : http://foodmatters.tv/articles-1/the-7-health-benefits-of-oil-pulling

I've tried this a few times, but never have been able to stick with it. I know it's gross, I literally gagged and spit it out. Maybe I'll give it another go since the benefits are great.

There was a post a girl made and she said to melt it first (most others say to put a tsp whole in your mouth and melt it down as you swish) but melt first and work your way up yo 15 minutes. Try 1 minute on day one, then 3 minutes then 5 and so forth. She said it helped a lot.

Lol I'm actually going to try this tomorrow morning

I did it in the period where everyone around me was getting sick and I think it just might have saved me from getting it too, because literally everyone at home was sick! That and washing my hands all the time haha.

I can see that being true Alex. But about the gross part of doing it - I 'like' that it gets out all the bacteria that the mucus contains, whenever you're stuck with it. Otherwise it just stays in your system so I am just always relieved to see that gross stuff is not going down in my body anymore. There's something to it. But I agree with the overhyping and profiling it as something it is not. How handy to have a mom that is a dietitian by the way!

I do it, it's removed a lot of stains from my teeth! It isn't that bad to me. The coconut taste Isn't too bad.. And the texture isn't too bad to me either. I usually do it in the shower though so I don't think about it as much.

I've heard by multiple people that it doesn't do anything, so I've never wasted my time with it

I actually just read an article on oil pulling. a doctor from India said that there are two ways to properly do it. one is to put a table spoon of oil in your mouth and hold it there for 4 minutes then spit it out and repeat that process one more time. the other one is to put a table spoon of oil in the mouth, hold it in place for a few minutes then swish for another minute or so. and I'm going to agree with Alex. oil pulling is awesome for oral health but since the oil is not ingested it won't do much more.
oh and @Mademoiselle A. most of us are on mobile devices or type fast and don't catch spelling mistakes until we post. so there is no need to be the spelling or grammar police.

Honestly I don't know if I could swish for 15 minutes even if I wanted to. Literally when I swish with mouthwash for like 3 minutes my jaw gets sore lol.

I agree, that was pretty rude. Especially considering the fact that most of the things you recommend are extremely dangerous, not including this thread but others.

I'm in nursing school right now & we were just discussing this topic the other day. Oil-pulling is completely pointless, other than the fact that it could help clean your mouth.. Sorry ladies lol save your taste buds and take a multivitamin ❤️

I agree with Logan my jaw gets sore just with regular mouthwash I couldn't do it with coconut oil lol.

I actually did this for a good month or maybe more last year then I started a few times. Honestly I really liked doing it, my goal was to whiten my teeth and clean my mouth because I have saliva that makes me prone to getting cavities. It really helped with the cleanliness. I had reached points where I almost didn't even have to brush at night (I did though). At first I thought it was creepy to have oil sitting there for so long, but after the first time, it was super smooth and I didnt havr issues. I choose not to do it anymore because I'm lazy and I guess I just wished there was more to it than swishing oil for twenty minutes just for a clean mouth... I decided to brush more often.

And btw if anyone choses to do this, brush your tongue a lottttt after!! So much of the bacteria stays there.

It also pulls things out of your gums, your gums are like little sponges absorbing toxins

Cool 😊. I could care less about any negative judgements made about my threads. I love the energy you spend thinking of me though. 😘 #MuchLove

There are no negative judgments being made. just stating the facts. a lot of these diy and fads/trends have great benefits but if done wrong can cause harm. No one is spending energy on you either, it's simply replying to a thread...that's what a message board is all about.

I'll add to that...these diys and fads also tend to exaggerate on the benefits.. like oil pulling.

I wasn't referring to you, yet if you felt the need to explain then do so. #Continue. I'm done with this discussion.
