Hey y'all! Do you think it would be unprofessional to have burgundy/red hair and work as a nurse?

I don't think so.

I work in healthcare too and have been told that anything "unnatural" is considered unprofessional so burgundy or red would definitely fall into that category.

I agree with rebecca.

I don't think it would be unprofessional, red isnt that unnatural! I think you should ask your manager to make sure, but I can't see how it could be unprofessional!

I think it depends on your job or career path. I feel that businesses are a lot more accepting than before. I work in a salon and even though I'm not into 'unnatural' hair colors I've been considering going burgundy I think it's really pretty and can look really great if done correctly & is more natural still than a purple, blue, etc. Maybe a dark base with a burgundy tint would be more acceptable. I suggest asking your boss for sure though

Sabrina I was thinking the same but I want to be sure. Many African Americans sport blonde hair which is not natural looking on some so how could they rule out red as not natural?

Sarah ya that's what I want not a fire engine red more like a deep wine color.

I agree with Sabrina I definitely don't consider red or burgundy an unnatural hair color. Do you have pics of the color you are considering?

I think that would be fine. Colors that I would consider unprofessional or un natural are colors like blue, green, and purple. You should still check with your manager  though.

Like a mix of burgundy and black maybe.

Varies. I would ask your manager. Most people will say yes, which is annoying, but a job is a job yknow

Ugh this stuff annoys me, I don't know why a hair color should be classified as 'unprofessional.'

Renay ya I'm going to ask cuz this is my career. Its a private Catholic hospital too. I just hope she say its OK.
Bailee if I worked for a state hospital they wouldn't care but since its private and Catholic they are probably more strict sadly. It is very annoying being on a tight leash over something as hair color.
Thanks Reny!

Yeah, some people are uptight lol. I was confused because it wasn't even crazy bright and all I do is work on the sales floor/register as a sports authority store SO! Pretty lame.

Yeah I don't think it's unprofessional, through school red was the only generally bright colour people were "allowed" to dye their hair, just because there are natural redheads (like myself) so they can't really say no. I think my natural colour is more on the orange side though.

Personally, I don't find unnatural hair colors unprofessional and I think that color would look absolutely lovely on you but I would definitely ask your manager so you don't waste money on it if it isn't allowed
