Has anyone tried and succeeded with any DIY acne or blackhead removers or helpers? Do you recommend? Thanks for responses in advance!(:

Most diy skin remedies are extremely bad for your skin. I recommend just using a blackhead exfoliating scrub from the store. Clean and clear has a great one.

I wouldn't recommend any DIY's, honestly. Most of them contain ingredients that are damaging to the skin and cause more harm than good. Just invest in proper skincare products rather than possibly damaging your skin with DIY's.

I second Garnier blackhead elimination scrub. ^ After you exfoliate, try a blackhead strip to pull them out.

And try a charcoal mask! The Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask has really helped clear up my blackheads!

Honestly, I would stay away from baking soda and lemon on your skin. It would probably cause more problems than it helps.

DO NOT USE LEMON OR BAKING SODA.

Baking soda is a chemical that is far too harsh for the skin and it will cause damage.

Lemon throws off the skin's natural pH balance and damages healthy skin cells.

Maybe it's helping with the noticeable problems, but what about the things you can't see with the naked eye? I'm just saying it's way too harsh for the skin, whether it helps or not, I don't recommend it at all. Do your research, Elena, and you'll see exactly how horrible it is for your skin.

Or talk to your derm and see what he tells you lol. Mine was laughing at me and then explained to me how harsh it is.

There are serious dangers to putting lemon on your face. Putting citrus on your face can cause a phototoxic reaction called phytophotodermatitis, an inflammatory reaction that results in bruise-like hyperpigmentation, with the potential for nasty-looking blisters and burning. It's often mistaken for chemical burns. it is dangerous, painful and really not worth it. Read about it here where less than 3 minutes can trigger a huge reaction on rats. Even sunblock didn't prevent it. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/16313243/
Baking soda is too harsh for skin too, it can cause micro tears causing more problems later, along with being extremely prone to sun damage and more skin problems from the now super exposed skin.

Please just stick to store bought researched products.

I agree with Shanae I would look into it a little more. I too am guilty of using lemon juice to lighten acne scars awhile back. It did appear to help a bit. But when I talked to my derm she was horrified. If you do a little research you will see that a lot of damage happens under the surface even if it visibly appears to be working. It's not worth it in the long run so just be careful!

I personally love diy skincare. I'm allergic to practically everything out there lol so I make a lot of things myself from lip balm to face/hair masks and body lotions and exfoliating soap bars. I use things like honey, vitamin e, coconut oil, olive oil, aloe vera, lavender, etc. it has helped me a lot and it's extremely gentle on the skin with no harsh chemicals or preservatives. just to be clear some of these ingredients aren't for everyone (ex. honey). it can cause allergic reactions when used topically so always do a patch test before putting anything on the skin. do not put anything acidic or too abrasive on the skin because it can make you more prone to sun damage or possibly an infection.

Elena, if you are looking for home remedies try the book, Better Basics for the Home. They have a fair amount of home made beauty product recipes. Aloe can help with black heads, coconut oil could be beneficial depending on your skin type. I am not a PhD, md, or derm of any kind. However, I do know what it's like to use store bought products and have a bad reaction to over the counter products. Just keep in mind, most diys are experimental ( trial and error based), and everyone's skin reacts differently. Rose water as a toner or witch hazel can help too.

Honey + sugar / salt! For oil removers you could try jello + milk (reach and equilibrium between the two) in the micro for a 15 seconds it will get really hot so just let it cool a bit. Smear it on your face and peel it off. If you use white jello you will see the dirt come off your face... sometimes black heads
