Do any of you know how to get rid of closed Comedones and blackheads with whiteheads on the forehead area. I get them mainly here as that's where I am oily the most. Tried retinol products with no luck and also tried salicylic cleansers with no luck as well...

Try steaming your face to open up the pores, it really works for me.

I've tried that and it didn't help! I use cetaphil cleanser and then oil free moisturiser and the cleanse at night! I used retin-a but it didn't do anything urgh

What helps me is oil cleansing. But when it gets bad or I've slacked lately, I'll put on a layer of salicylic acid (I use a clean and clear one) and steam my face or workout for 20 minutes, then rub oil around on my face. I massage it in super well, kinda in circles and making sure to massage each congested area super well. I let the oil sit for a few minutes and then wash off.
I do this a few times a week till it clears. It's really helped me

I tried that but it made my skin worse. My forehead gets blackheads spots really quickly.!

Well with a lot of congestion, since they're usually deep under the skin sometimes it can cause a purge breakout, but if you continue doing it for a little, then you may see a huge result after the purge. Also, it usually takes 14-28 days to see results of any skincare method

Have you tried an BHA? A salicylic cleanser doesn't stay on the face long enough to be effective. And like Alyx said it will get worse before it gets better, it has no where to go except out.

You could try a mild skin peel weekly or biweekly.

For comedones and blackheads you need to make sure that you are lightly exfoliating to help remove the skin so you can clean out the pore. I personally recommend using just a rougher washcloth so you don't irritate your skin. Salicylic acid has never worked for me, it actually makes me breakout more if it is in the form of a spot treatment, so I would recommend benzoyl peroxide. My personal routine is using three or four products: the first product is the Clean and Clear Continuous Control cleanser that contains 10% benzoyl peroxide; the second product I use is the Clean and Clear Blackhead Eraser scrub that contains 2% salicylic acid because if you use too many benzoyl peroxide products it will dry you out; the third product is the Clinique Clarifying Lotion in type 3 because it removes all the dirt that your cleanser left behind which is a surprising amount; finally to finish up I use the Clean and Clear Persa Gel 10 that contains 10% benzoyl peroxide for a spot treatment. You do have to be careful with benzoyl peroxide because it will discolor your clothes and and fabrics it comes in contact with if you don't properly wash it off.

What Alura said, chemical exfoliants tend to be more effective in leave-on products. My favorites are Paula's Choice liquid BHA exfoliants, and she has all different strengths and textures to suit the needs of different skin types. Also try to avoid anything harsh or irritating like alcohol and fragrance.

Be careful with scrubs, they don't exfoliate very efficiently and spread around acne bacteria. The Clinique Clarifying Lotions are mostly alcohol, which is harsh on skin and stimulates oil production at the base of the pore. The active ingredient in the clarifying lotions is salicylic acid, which exfoliates and clears pores when left on, but you're better off without all the irritants involved. Most of Clinique's oily skin products are full of ingredients that are not good for skin of any type. Definitely give benzoyl peroxide or tea tree oil a try (they kill acne bacteria equally efficiently so it's just a matter of preference) but start between 2 and 5% before jumping to 10 as it can be damaging to the skin.

I'd also add a cleansing brush along with the salcylic acid. it sounds like you're on the right track. Olay makes a great one. start off with 2 to3x a week at night and increase after 2 weeks if desired. Make sure you are using a daily SPF as well.

My skin is sensitive guys and I just want to get rid of these bumps!! I used salicylic acid leave on exfoliant last week by Paula's choice but I went swimming the next day and wore spf moisturiser beforehand and when it came home to shower my skin was all red an irritated afterwards. I was also using retinol 0.05% aswell so I have stopped using both and might give the bha leave on exfoliant another go! How long till it starts to work?

Yeah, have to be careful combining stuff with retinol products, you just never know. As for how long it takes, you should notice a difference in your skin right away but depending on your skin and how it reacts it could take a couple weeks to clear up. Some people purge when they first start using a BHA.

It's going to take time for any product you decide to use for it to clear up and might get worse before it gets better... try the BHA again but give it a month or so before throwing in the towel. Have you tried any facial masks? That may help to dry up the white heads and improve the blackheads some. My favorites are CLINIQUE Acne Solutions Oil-Control Cleansing Mask (great for white heads and balancing oil), just use a moisturizer after. BOSCIA Luminizing Black Mask would be good just for the forehead area or if you are cleanly shaven, of it will stick your hairs... But great for blackheads. And this last one is good for blackheads too, ORIGINS Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask To Clear Pores.

Can I also ask what is the difference between glycolic and salicylic acid? Can glycolic be used for closed Comedones and blackheads

And also I'm scared of going swimming incase I get a skin reaction with the products I'm using! What do I do??

What about proactive or using the clarisonic?

Mar 5, 2015

Sidore A.

Or the tool for blackheads? Maybe the face washes are irritating your skin.

You could use the BHA or AHA just right before bedtime. So, it won't be a problem for your swimming...

Thanks guys! and not the tool because I am scared of scarring and poractive seems too harsh for the skin and clarisonic was shit! tried it all!
