Hey girls! I'll be getting my bellybutton pierced soon, and I have a few questions!
how long is the healing process?
after how long will I be able to take it out?
how high maintenance is it?

Also!! how much does it cost, and what does the initial piercing look like? would you recommend a hoop or a stud!

I've had mine pierced since June, and mine is still healing. You're technically not supposed to change it until it is fully healed. I haven't taken mine out at all. I clean it twice a day, once in the morning and the evening. It's not that hard to keep up with just make sure to use sea salt to clean it with. Also, mine cost $40 plus $5 for the stud. Definitely get a stud not a hoop they are uncomfortable. I'm not sure how much it will be where you're going. I live in Virginia. Anyways it's such a cute piercing and totally worth it!! I love mine

And btw, yours might take less time to heal it just depends. It's different for everyone. Mine is taking longer unfortunately :(

On average six months, everyone is different. you can change the jewelry when it's fully healed.

It's not that high maintenance, same as every other piercing..the only thin that sucked was showers, try not to get irritating products near it (ie: scented body washes)

Cost depends on location, I've had mine pierced 3 times & each time mess a different price due to different locations. No more than $60 I'd say if you're going to a good piercer + add in some nice jewelry.

My just had a curved bar each time, a long one so it heals nicely.

My tips would be; don't swim while it's healing (summer is coming), don't wear something you know will snag at it, & please take care if it because the scarring is ugly, it also is the worst piercing through it again. Also, make sure your piercer uses a needle please.

Also, don't use soap AT ALL to clean it!

If you have any questions, ask the piercer, he/she will or should, anyways, go through all of this w/ you!

I have to disagree, I find that a hoop (in any piercing) is more hygienic than a barbell because you can manipulate it more easily to get the gunk out and make sure you're fully cleaning the hole and not just the area around the jewelry. Everyone heals a little differently, but on average you're looking at 12-16 weeks, though I waited about 8 months before I changed my jewelry, just to play it safe. But the navel is a pretty easy piercing to care for. Just wash it twice daily, don't play with it til it's healed, don't go swimming for at least 8 weeks, and you'll be fine! And when in doubt, call your piercer :)

Mine took about a month and a half to heal so that was nice. I did wait two months so take it out and change it for a new one. I'd say it's low maintenance and you can hardly feel it's there after a few days (that could just be me) I had more trouble with my ear and nose piercings than I've had with my belly. Mine was $40 even. I've never seen a hoop on a belly button before, I'm sure it will be just a stud with a curved bar.

Takes about 6 months for it to be almost fully healed, I've got both bottom and top of mine done. It isn't very high maintenance however if you bump it on anything or wear high waisted jeans it'll make the healing process longer. Belly button piercings have the tendency to reject on some people so if you notice the jewellery moving forward at any time or the bar seems to be falling out so to speak you'll probably have to take it out, I know people who even after it rejecting 3 times still continue to get it re pierced haha. For me each piercing was 40$ and a stud is best. You don't want to move the piercing around too much while you're cleaning it, I used to make a saline solution in a cup and if you lean over the cup and keep the cup there for a few minutes is the easiest and for me was the most efficient way to clean it. :)

You're not supposed to get a ring for any piercings as the first piercing as they make it heal crooked and can cause pain trying to put a straight/curved bar in later. Cleaning I've found that pure chamomile extract or tea tree extracts are the best for skin and healing as they are chemical free. You should be able to buy them at pharmacies. Good luck.
Ps it doesn't hurt :)

That's not at all true... if you bought a CBR somewhere and used it for the initial piercing, then yes. But any piercer worth his salt shapes the ring to the body part being pierced, ensuring proper healing, and ability to wear jewelry of all shapes within the proper gauge. If your piercer does not do this, run far far away.

I've actually never come across a body piercer who will ask whether you'd like a ring to begin with and I've only ever gone to high end piercing shops. From what I've learnt using a ring first actually causes the piercing to grow In a certain way that you'll actually have more difficulty wearing jewellery of all shapes because the piercing heals to a curved bar, not a straight piercing.
