Just a little mascara review for y'all!

Hey all! I have a confession to make:

I am SO bad at getting rid of products when I'm supposed to.

Many of you have seen or heard me talk about how much I freaking love the Perfekt Lash Perfection Gel. Well, I finally decided it was time to move on from it so I didn't end up with an eye infection or anything.

In my most recent Sephora order, I had gotten a teeny tiny sample size of the Bare Minerals Lash Domination mascara, and I decided to use that as my next mascara, or at least try it out for a bit. So, I'm going to review it. I've seen that some people really like it, actually, and since I've been using it for a few days now, I figure I have a decent understanding of the mascara and I'll be able to review it okay :)

I'll start with the brush. I slacked this morning and couldn't grab a picture, but it's really interesting. It sort of looks like a DNA helix, to me. There are two lines of bristles that twist around the wand in a swirly kind of way. God I hope that makes sense. It's pretty cool, and it provides decent length and separation, but I actually don't like that there are empty spaces instead of being covered with bristles, it means that I have to adjust the brush a lot in order to get my lashes covered the way I like them to be. I will say, though, that this brush is AWFUL for your lower lashes. It's just too big a brush and with lower lashes it's hard to adjust without getting mascara all over everything. I'm not sure I can keep using it on my lower lashes, I might have to open a second mascara so I can get my desired results.

Moving on to the formula...I actually do like this. It's very black and it doesn't irritate my eyes, and it also doesn't flake. I do think that it clumps a little more than I would like, but that's easily remedied if I wipe the brush and am careful with my application.

Overall, this mascara isn't bad. It's simply not really ideal for me. It lengthened my lashes, sure, and it gave a bit of extra volume, but the brush makes it hard to just swipe and go, which is sort of ideal for me since I have early classes now and I like to sleep. It's okay if you have the time to make your lashes perfect, and even if you don't it's definitely not a bad mascara, just harder to deal with. Anyway, here's a picture with the results.

Any questions, comments, thoughts? If you've used this mascara before, how do you like it and how do you deal with it?

Great review Hannah! I actually like the results a lot. Quick question, my bottom lashes are non existent (VERY minimal)... Do you think this mascara will help bring them out?

Well, like I said, I don't actually like this for bottom lashes. It's kind of a big brush, and it's not totally covered with bristles, so it's hard to get all of your lashes without getting mascara everywhere. You might want to check out a brush with a skinnier wand, that should help a bit. I'd also recommend a lash primer, those are life saving. I also have really short and nonexistent lower lashes, I've just figured out how to deal with them :)

Thank you!! I never thought of eyelash primer lol. On the hunt now

Nice review Hannah Thanks! Just a bit of info to share, there is bottom lash mascaras too the wand is much smaller and made to apply just the right amount ;)

I've seen those, I've just never looked into them because I find that as long as I have a skinny wand I'll do okay. Maybe that should be my next investment! :)

It's a bit different formula for bottom lashes the wand is short, I say give it a go it's a good investment to have. I remeber L'Oréal or Maybelline use to have one that I loved but also clinique as one for $10 it's really good. let's hope they bring them back with a bang because it's worth it :) I do need to grab another one

Lol I'll just start emailing every company that makes mascaras and harass them into bringing it back!

Hmm thanks for the review. Doesn't separate them much. Your lashes look pretty. You look good wth just mascara!

Lol yes that would be perfect and to top it off the Kevyn Aucoin lash curler can be used to curl bottom lashes by turning it up side down what a beautiful look that would create With bottom lash mascara.

No, Renay, not a lot of separation unfortunately. And I'm not a fan of just mascara on me, personally, but thanks.

Ooh Alma I'll have to try that!

Clinique had a special bottom lash mascara and it's only $20. I actually LOVE bare minerals flawless definition mascara, never tried this one though.

Are you rotating the wand as you apply it? It's awkward, but that's the correct way to apply it, rather than just an upward motion.

I'll be honest though, that's one of our mascaras that I dislike the most lol. It's just so hit or miss. I love the way it feels though, no crispy lashes yaaaay. But it transfers onto my undereyes no matter what I do, and it drives me crazy. -.-

Great review! Thanks. I'm terrible at throwing out stuff too. I just went through my makeup at Christmas and I threw away 6 old mascaras! What a lot of space they were taking up and some of them were really, really old. I'm trying to do only one mascara right now and I'm pretty happy with it, but I too have tiny, sparse, blonde lower lashes. I find that working a bit of color through them with my Wayne Goss #8 brush works as well as any mascara I have. I usually just use waterproof eyeliner for this. It's slow, but not that much slower than using a wand when you consider how often I end up making a mess with a wand on my lower lashes.

No worries, Lauren. This isn't my favorite.

Alli, yeah I'm rotating it. Still impossible and annoying.

Yeah Jenny I'm bad about it. I'll have to try that, normally I line my waterline and angle the liner so that it sweeps across the roots of my lashes and gives some extra definition/volume.

"I'll have to try that, normally I line my waterline and angle the liner so that it sweeps across the roots of my lashes and gives some extra definition/volume. "
My lashes are so short on the bottom, I'm already like half way there when I sweep color across the roots. It isn't that much extra work to take the same brush and drag it out a bit. Works with a spoolie as well, but then I have to pick up another brush. Sometimes I think the art of doing makeup is the ability to hold many things in your hand at once...

I tried the samples tjey give out of this mascara and let me tell you I hated this mascara its just so hard to work with for me, I couldnt get a decent applocation of the mascara profuct on my lashes, I practicly have invisible lashes and this has got to be one of the worst mascaras I have ever tried.

Jan 29, 2015

Hannah K.

Lili I definitely get that. This isn't the worst mascara I've ever used but I probably won't keep using it

I got a sample too! I threw it out, it smelled badly like paint >.<
