Does anyone have a good DIY hair conditioner for dry hair? My hair is usually oily on the roots but the rest it dry in the winter and from dying it. I know everyone recommends coconut oil but I swear I can't get it out of my hair. I used a very small amount of it before and only left it in for about 5-10 minutes and I couldn't wash it out. I must have washed my hair at least 10 times and it was still disgustingly greasy. Do you have any suggestions that won't make my hair a grease ball?

What were the ingredients in the coconut oil? If you get 100% virgin/pure oil that shouldn't happen :p because one time I used a coconut oil but it had other things like petroleum jelly (Vaseline) in it and I literally had to get dish soap and wash it out with it twice -.- lol, so if you get a good one that shouldn't happen, I leave mine in overnight and shampoo twice then conditioner and its good! :p also a good tip since your roots are oily, when you shampoo, only shampoo and scrub the roots and too of your hair, then when you use conditioner start at the ends and work your way up, stopping about and inch from the roots and it should make them less greasy :) or you can bring it up all the way and then rinse it suuuper well lol

@Gabby I use 100% pure virgin organic coconut oil lol. And thank you so much for the advice!

Try raw Shea butter (or oil) or pure jojoba oil!

I've always been curious to try jojoba oil. I know people love it for their skin, I've never heard of many people using it on their hair.

This is weird, but try olive oil. It's thicker than coconut oil, but it doesn't harden when cold like coconut oil (so it's easier on Canadian pipes) and it washes out much better for me. I can't use coconut oil anymore since it clogged my pipes, so I use it in the summer where I can shampoo outside with the hose but I use olive oil and sometimes mix argon oil in it. I use argon oil every time I get out of the shower, but they both helped me.

Also, 3 minute miracle is great along with the more pricier macadamia mask. I've also tried the klorine (sp?) mask, and it smells like gingerbread sugar cookies lol. These all moisturize super well without making it too greasy. All of them except the oil I don't shampoo out. And I only wash my hair 1-2 times a week

I have really curly, coarse, dry hair and my shampoo/conditioner has jojoba in it. I applied a small amount to my hair today and WHOA. Good hair day! Olive oil like Alyx mentioned is good too. Sometimes I'll heat it up in the microwave, apply to damp hair and wrap it up into a shower cap and (for me) I'll let it sit about 45 minutes, and my hair feels so soft and ridiculously shiny (but not in a greasy way, and my hair is never shiny).

I agree with Gaby up there

Olive oil, massaged into the scalp and down the shaft, concentrating on ends.
Leave in for an hour.
When you wash, wash with a clarifying shampoo first, then your normal shampoo and conditioner, and then leave in conditioner after.

Hope you figure something out :)
