Hi beauties
I've been more into a grunge style these times and I was wondering what everyday makeup can I do to have that grunge look? Thank you.

Well Limecrime's Venus palette is supposed to be grunge inspired. It's very heavy on the earth tones, the reds and brick colors were really big in makeup in the early 90s. Search youtube for grunge makeup tutorials. There are a bunch. My fave is Sharon Farrels':

It's like a time machine of my high school days in the early 90's lol. Grunge style never really had a makeup look back then, what look were you thinking of?

Far be it for me to contradict you Alma, but I think there definitely was a makeup look for grunge. I was in college in those days going to shows and stuff, and the makeup look was definitely lots of eyeliner, smoked out with bold, dark lips. Lots of dark eye shadow. Courtney Love and the Riot Grrls reclaimed girly feminine looks for punk rock. And you started seeing lots of bright colored blush, applied with a heavy hand, as well as pink lipstick. But what people have come to call grunge makeup is mostly earth tones paired with smoked out eyeliner. And I can kind of see where this is coming from. If you watch a lot of film and TV from that era, you see MUAs were using a lot of reds, brick-y browns and mustard colors at the time. I can't think of another time BEFORE that when these colors for eyeshadow were so prevalent.

Far be it to contradict? lol,it's called a conversation of open views no matter what :) I personally feel like Courtney was inspired by Nancy Spungen so her look was based on the punk era but I myself have also lived the era.I'm not young and do remember what I seen and lived as well, what we have in common is that the looks now is more of a glamorized versus of what was. :)

We Minnesotans will never be over the fact that we invented grunge (The Replacements, Soul Asylum) and somehow people forget this and pretend it came from Seattle :D. But srsly, though Jacqueline is right, it was metal and punk from LA migrating north to the land of flannel shirts and long underwear worn all year long. And a little Sub Pop band making good with a top 40 hit (Nirvana). But yeah, there was definitely a no makup side to the scene as well, with Kim Deal and Kim Gordon, godmothers of the genre really, rarely ever wearing makeup. This was what I clung to personally, and explains why I sort of skipped makeup in my formative years.

Alma: Hooray! Someone remembers Nancy Spongeon. We watched Sid and Nancy over and over in high school and college. It was huge influence on everyone, and Courtney Love actually had a small part in that film. Nancy was a big influence on Riot Grrl with the really blushed cheeks etc. Courtney always kept that super bold lip that she probably learned on the set of SAN.

Another movie we watched on endless loop: Heathers (1988). Winona's eye shadow here is what I'm talking about that's being called "grunge" now.

Sid and Nancy movie was great, I do remember Courtney and her original nose from that movie lol.Winona Ryder she was the it girl for me back then, such a flash back moment. Those colors that she had on her eyes and lips in general was just the look of the early 90's so pretty. I think so much style all around was so awesome.

Grunge isn't perfect edges, clean and expert like. It's very messy and bold, all you really need is to smudged eyeliner and bold lips maybe. Just keep in mind that Grunge was never and is never about being clean with makeup and it's a very messy style in regards to makeup and clothing.

Grunge makeup is pretty minimal. Practically just a light brown smoked all around the eye, some mascara, maybe some liner, messy brows, and then a dark lip like a burgundy or a brown nude
