I have been researching a lot lately, because I really want to try to use Henna on my hair. My hair is naturally dark brown and I did a light brown ombre four months ago. So I have it in kinda different shades of brown. What I want is to give my hair a red tone (but still being brown), kinda like a dark auburn. But I really don't want to use any harsh products or box dies because my hair is already facing some breakage. I read that the Lush's henna dies make the hair thicker and shinier. My problem is... I don't know if I want to buy the Caca Rouge (only red henna) or the Caca Marron (red henna mixed with other colours, indigo for example). Have anyone tried these before on brown hair? I don't want to make a huge mistake if I use the rouge and my hair turns out super RED!! I'll post a picture of myself and then a picture of the color that I want :). Thanks in advance!

I was looking at the Lush Henna but didn't think it would show up on my hair. If you do it, please update us!

Henna is no good. pure henna only comes in one color, red. the henna that is used for hair is most likely not pure and is considered "Compound Henna". meaning it is mixed with other chemicals. Henna is permanent and does penetrate the hair shaft. it is also damn near imposible to get out. Compund Henna can and probably will dry your hair out, especially if you use any kind of heat on it. you also run the risk of it turning other colors over time...like green. I know lush says they are natural but I don't buy into it..I'm sure there henna is just as bad as everything else. your best bet is to get a semi permanent dye. it's not harsh and if your going darker or just adding a red cast, then there is no need for a permanent dye.

I completely agree with Kelly. I thought about using Henna until I did some more research and don't exactly understand the point/difference compared to dyes. The problem with Henna is that if you want to change hair color in the future it can be extremely difficult and you have to have someone who knows how to handle it, otherwise it will damage your hair. That color you want is gorgeous but I would personally go get it done or try an at home dye (John Frieda Foam is the only at home brand I'll use) because I don't think you'll get that desired color with henna. I actually take two different dyes and mix them together to get a similar color.

Agreeing with Kelly and Lisa. Tried henna way back in hs when I wasn't aloud to dye my hair. it was really red then orange then I went swimming and got a sallow green tinge and just yuck

I highly recommend you use another dye. Henna is horrible!

But I know that other dyes damage the hair because they have chemicals that make the dye penetrate better in the hair... I don't know what is good then. So many people say wonders about henna... I don't know what to think anymore.

Other dyes will not damage the hair if done right. hair color gets a bad name because people use It carelessly and because of that, damage their hair. As dar as chemicals to make the dye penetrate better, that's bs. Nothing penetrates more and causes more harm then henna (in terms of hair color...not bleach). 14 years as a hair stylist, and I've had seen some bad things from henna. Henna has chemicals in it too, more then actual hair color. a semi or demi permanent won't ruin your hair.

And if you want the color in the picture you posted, it'll never happen with henna.

Thank you all for the answers. Kelly, thanks for the explanations. I'm kinda new to hair dying and stuff. I'll maybe try a semi-permanent dye. I only know Loreal's but I don't know if it is a good one. I'll have to do some research on that then.

Drugstore hair dye will ruin your hair. If you really want your hair colored, spend the money and let a professional do it.

L'Oreals hair dye ruined my hair. Thats why I only use John Frieda (has not ruined my hair in the 3 years I've been using and I have gotten it professionally in between then, only difference is it faded quicker) or go get done professionally. I honestly wouldn't be worried about using an at home because 1- you aren't blonde making a drastic change that could be damaging and 2- you aren't trying to bleach your hair. Because your hairs already so dark your not going to damage or it will be pretty unlikely you do. Since you're worried and unsure how or what to choose, it would probably just be best for you to go get it done somewhere.
