I'm looking to go blonde, like a platinum blonde, but I'm actually not sure if it's possible? My hair was died black, the last time being probably 6-8 months ago. Most of it is faded out and I have the ombré look going on, but I still have strips of black that WILL NOT budge.. Will a stylist be able to bring me to a platinum? If so, will it be a long process? Will I have go to the salon more than once before achieving it? Not really sure how that works. Thanks!

Guy Tang (I don't know if that is his YouTube name but I think it is) did Bunny (grav3yard girl on YouTube) her hair from black to blonde without doing much damage so I'd definitally check that out if I were you :)

You will have to go a few times since it's black and also since it is dyed, they will have to remove layers of dye. The first time you go it will probably turn out a brassy color. If you decide to do it try to find a salon that uses olaplex, it helps your hair to not get as damaged.

Be really careful, it's damaging and it's really hard to get a nice platinum especially if it's coming from a dark color. I did hair for 7 years and within the last year decided to leave the industry. Platinum is really hard to achieve without pulling yellow and brass. My best advice to you is to ask around and do a lot of research and find a good hair stylist that does great work. It'll be pricy but I'm sure they'll take good care of you. Doing it yourself is not a good idea. I'm so sorry if I sound like a downer but I'm experienced and I wanted to give you the best advice. Sometimes you get lucky and you can reach a nice platinum easier than others. But definitely find a talented experienced stylist and you should get what you want. Btw aveda damage remedy will help with damage. Drug store products... Run away! Will add to damage

This is going to be really damaging on the hair so be prepared to buy nice hair masks and toners and color treated shampoo. You will have to go in a couple times and it will probably start looking brassy which is why you'll need a toner. If your hair is already dry and brittle, please make sure this is something you really want to do. (Not sure what your hair type is) If you are willing to treat it and give it a lot of care (which my friends say isn't easy) you should be okay, but make sure this is something you really want to do.

I personally think you look good with your brown hair (in your profile picture)

First off. Salon done or box dye black? If it's box dye, you will need several (I mean lots) of appointments to lighten it, and there's no guarantee that it'll go away. Box dye is incredibly strong and hard to get rid of.
If it's salon dye, they can strip the color and hopefully it goes well and turns probably a brown depending what color it was before. Then in your next appointment they would start the bleaching.

The only way to do this in one go would cause lots of damage, and result in probably 5 inches or so being cut off, depending on your hair strength.

Also just wanted to add, drugstore products don't add to damage. As long as you go silicone and sulfate free, there's very little difference between 8$ conditioner and 50$ conditioner. It might have more oils, or more concentrated amount of whatever conditioning agent it uses, but it won't add to damage, and not all expensive brands are good either.

I'm so sorry Alyx I really don't want to offend and I like your hair color in your profile picture :-) I understand that products work differently for different people but I've scraped wax off of many of my clients hair from so many of the drugstore products. The reason why professional is expensive is bc it has many good ingredients that drugstore doesn't. It costs more bc there's more put into it. Not all drug store is bad but it won't do the above and beyond that professional does. But yes you are right there is good and bad professional products too. I'm so sorry if I sound rude or anything. I'm overly obsessive with products. I've offended people before and I don't mean to. I've always been caring about my clients taking care of their hair. I'm just a little too obsessive with the subject. So I really am sorry if I offend you

You didn't offend, I just wanted to say you can have nice hair without spending 100$ a month on shampoo and conditioner. Yes they are less potent, but they still do the same thing and of you incorporate a mask or oil, it does the same thing.
I use the body shops 10$ banana shampoo and conditioner, and it's done way better to my hair than any expensive salon brand has. I've tried a lot of them, my stylist recently went from being the main person at a big salon to being a Barber lol. But she only washes her hair every 3-4 months, and she gave me a ton of her big name professional products. And they were okay, but half of them still had harsh sulfates, and were loaded with silicone in the conditioner.

And I also don't want to offend. I, just like you, am very obsessed with hair care lol.

Well that's great that those products work for you and you'll probably have really nice hair. Depending on the persons hair they may not need shampoos packed with beneficial ingredients bc they have such healthy hair. Sometimes your hair is going to look great no matter what you use bc it's just great hair. Some people may need professional bc their hair calls for it. But please please please never use Pantene lol it's called Pantene bc it has pathanol in it. Pathanol is a wax. Seriously if you can save money great! Just anything but Pantene lmao

I meant you probably have nice hair lol not you'll probably

Lmao and yeah no one should spend $100 a month on shampoo. If it's a $100 purchase it's probably going to last you more like 3-4 months bc the bottles would come huge at $50 a bottle. And with professional you only need a lil at a time.

But you don't need to worry bc you found something cheap that works for you and that's awesome

Grace, I left a comment on your profile, but I was wondering what products you would recommend for normal-dry hair that's prone to split ends lol!

I think maybe I'm just going to leave it as is after reading all of this! My hair is at a nice, healthy state at the moment and I really don't want to do any damage to it, it took so long getting it back to health!! I'll do a bit more research on it, maybe go into a good salon and have a chit-chat, but my dark color is seeming mighty attractive to me after thinking about the damage!! Thanks ladies!!
