Hi girls, I have been using a derma brand skincare from my derm and my skin is pretty clear now from scars and acne but there's still some uneven patchy skin tone. So, I wanted to try their new lightener and it contains mineral oil. I think I break out bad with products that contains mineral oil like the cle de peu concealer which I love and had to give it up. I don't know if I should try it again. You know, give it a second try seeing my friends had good results after using the lightener. I'm so tempted but at the same time don't want to ruin my skin. Please advice.

The ingredients

Ouch! If it sat lower on the ingredients list it might not pose you any issue but being that its #6 in line it might pose an issue. My skin is iffy with mineral oil as well and so I tread very carefully with skincare/cosmetics that contain it. Since its a derma grade product the mineral oil is refined for skincare so its not an urber bad thing. If you're just looking to clear up dark patches of skin I would look into getting home use peels containing AHA. Or a glycolic serum of at least 10%. Are you using a vitamin c serum and sunscreen for daytime use? I found it beneficial for me to keep my hyperpigmentation in check.

I live by vitamin c and SPF to keep my hyperpigmentation from being really noticeable. I recently started using Peter Thomas Roth's AHA/BAH Acne Clearing Gel. I noticed that my when my new pimples are gone there's less acne scarring. What's been brightening my skin lately is Clarisonic's Radiance line. The brush sucks, but I think the serum is really working.

May I ask why mineral oil is so bad for the skin?

Its not necessarily bad for the skin Tamara but it sits on the surface of the skin. While its great for dry skin it doesn't hold anything beneficial for oily skin types. Its just isn't infused with nutrients making it beneficial. A better alternative to mineral oil is shea butter but unfortunately that limits those with nut allergies. Mineral Oil is actually in my beloved RoC Retinol cream but it sits so far down on the ingredients chain that it doesn't even affect my skin negatively.

Thanks for the info Shelley! I've been using Shea butter for a rash that I recently got on my neck area and I'm surprised I like the smell. I'm oily but it seems my skin is enjoying all these butters and oils that I've been using. Argan is my favorite right now but Rose is a very good second. Before I learned about proper skincare regimens I was always looking for something to get rid of spots and scarring. Now I realize that if my skin is being well taken care of then scars, blemishes and hyperpigmentation isn't a problem. I guess my skin isn't struggling anymore so it's able to repair itself faster, easier.

I have. A good idea! Try some of your friends and see what happens. Then if it downsat break you out you should buy it. XD.

Thanks girls. I am using a vitamin c serum. Thats the product that cleared up the acne scars. I use a spf 50 sunscreen too. I'm actually very happy with the results but there's still some patches of uneven skin tones. I had to put on bb creams to even it out. I kinda want my skin to look good without make up. 😁

@Ruby have you considered maybe seeing an Esthetician to perform a light chemical peel?
