I've heard of glutathione- I have a glycolic moisturiser and that's one of the ingredients. I think it's just a modified acid used for helping acne? Idk lol

Just did a quick search on webMD and it seems like it's a supplement for treating autoimmune diseases mainly - but side effects are not widely known just yet (not enough research is out there with this regard) and it's mainly injected in cancer patients to help with radiation sickness as well as AIDS/HIV patients... In terms of skincare it seems to act like an antioxidant and it is naturally produced by the liver... So I'm not sure how much it can help with the skin or even with acne - but I have to admit I've never seen it in any skincare products that I own

It's used in skin whitening. Honestly, unless you medically need it, I'd avoid it. And honestly, don't do research on the internet on safety of certain things, especially skin whitening supplements. It's s big business and it's in the best interest of these companies to spread the word and post a ton of information about the benefits. I'd consult both a doctor and possibly a professor at a medical school (via email) to get a wide variety of unbiased opinions.

That may not be a good idea. Glutathione is a naturally occurring enzyme from the liver, taking a supplement may cause your liver to slow down natural glutathione production making you dependent on the pills. If you want to increase your enzyme levels, I suggest eating more green leafy vegetables, or turmeric.

Don't buy glutathione pills, they're overpriced.
Vitamin C supplements between 1,000-5,000mg will raise your glutathione levels in the body which can help you lighten your complexion.
Keep in mind, it takes time whatever it's vitamin C or actual glutathione.
Just be sure to keep it up.
Glutathione has been shown to lighten skin but so does vitamin C (Abscorbic acid) it even prevents fruits from browning.
Like lemon juice is sprayed on apples to prevent browning cause lemon juice has a lot of Abscorbic acid.
Don't use lemon juice on your skin. Just take the vitamin C supplements

My father-in-law was shot up with this stuff when he was fighting lung cancer and it did nothing earth-shattering and he still felt ill after his treatments Topically I'm skeptical of it because as Diana mentioned the research isn't extensive. I looked thru all my skincare products and I didn't see none of them containing this.

The reason you guys may of not heard of glutathione in skincare is cause it's more of an Asian thing.
I've heard of Filipino celebs that love the glutathione pills or shots and get good results.
One of the side effects of the glutathione was getting a lighter complexion(the lighter you are the faster it works since there's less melanin in the first place)
It's been popular in Asian products for lightening from the north and the southeast. Used in soaps, lotions, creams, deodorant, lip balm and some BB cream although Kojic Acid and Arbutin are more popular lighteners in BB creams from Asia.
I've used glutathione soap and it did make my skin more glowy. I only used one bar. My skin looked brighter but I don't think in soaps it works as good as Kojic acid. Glutathione seems more gentle (no dryness or peeling like Kojic acid)
Or perhaps there was just a smaller amount in the glutathione soap?
I'm not sure but I hear people prefer to take the pills or shots.
As I mentioned, a higher amount of vitamin C works the same. Your body naturally produces glutathione and more vitamin C helps to produce more of it

Yay Aurora!! Thank you for sharing the deets. This weekend I plan on looking more into it from a topical standpoint. I'm not a fan of brighteners/lightening products on my skin ( I love self tanning too much to achieve the opposite...darker skin).
