I have been using heat to keep my hair straight for 3 years now. I only use it once a week and shower my hair once week. Do you think that this will have any effect on my hair in the near/future.

Well using heat on your hair isn't good for it so yea you'll have damage but as long as you're using deep conditioning masks and taking care of it and using heat protector spray then you should be fine :) but I would suggest talking to your stylist about getting a straightening treatment :) I did keratin for a while and I super loved it and it's so much better for your hair than straightening it so much

Thanks for the help but I was wondering dosnt hair keratin cause fallout because I spoke to a hair specialist not too long ago n the first thing he asked was have you ever had the treatment and I said no n then he said good don't do it coz it's bad. But then I've had a friend who has had it done and is fine. If you can please tell me what you faced? Did your hair look any different

:0 oh my no I didn't have any fallout at all. I loved it sooooo much! It made my hair really silky and omg it was amazing but I stopped using it bcuz when we applied heat to my hair after it, it would turn yellow. It isn't anything that you probably have to worry about. It only happens to like 1% of the population lol and it's just bcuz I have certain amino acids in my hair that react with the keratin but I mean if it didn't turn yellow from it then I would still be doing keratin. But I mean if you are still iffy about keratin there's tons of other straightening things out there :) I can't say how good they are though because I've only done keratin but I did it every like 5 months for like 2 years and I loved it the entire time. It's a bit expensive but in my opinion it was 100% worth it

Terri, I have the same problem. I have damaged my hair due to heat. All keratin straightening does is add a TON of chemicals to your hair and scalp (you will feel an extreme burning, sweating sensation as they are applying he chemicals to your head) my advice? Rock your curly hair, keep it natural, and straighten it only when you have a special occasion!

I straighten my hair once in a while (not as often as I used to) but as long you get regular trims then it won't permanently damage your hair in the long run - it doesn't damage the roots - only the ends - and those can be easily removed with a hair cut / so as long you are taking proper care of your hair with heat protection and a moisturizing oil or sealant oil after heat then you should be fine - my hair is still healthy and I used to straighten every day for a couple years when I was younger - now I wear it more natural most days but I still straighten it every now and then and it's still perfectly healthy and I can usually go 6-8 months after a cut before seeing any split ends.

Diana is so right. When my hair was damaged due to exposure to radiotherapy my hairdresser cut all the breakage off. Then she told me to buy Pro Naturals Hair Repair System. I did, I started using it last December and I still use it. I follow their suggested regime of 1 week in every 6, works well for me, just received my re-order yesterday! For the other weeks just continue using what you are currently using. I use the Moroccan argan oil leave in treatment after every shampoo day and before drying and styling my hair because I find it is an excellent heat protectant. I use a really good hairdryer - Salon Series Ultralight Ionic and a G3 Salon Pro hair straightener (I use it to curl not straighten). By the way I wash my hair every 3 days, it is short, very similar to my avatar.
