If you're good at it. I did a gel manicure on myself and hated it. It wasnt with a light though, it was some kit that had a setting gel or something. It was really messy.
I've been getting gel ever since it first came out (always get it done professionally) but I always wondered if its bad for your nails. Haven't really used regular polish since!
I love them!!! I just bought sensationail gel system from Walmart & it is awesome!! I did my own manicure at home & it looks professional!! Day 4 & still looking great!!!!
I specialise in gel manicures and I highly recommend them. They last up to 2 weeks, they don't damage the natural nail and you can pretty much forget about them once done, no waiting for them to dry nonsense. It's much better though for a professional to apply them though. You never get a perfect finish like someone else doing it on you.
I love gel manicures they last long and look nice,I have gotten addicted, but considering you are under the uv lamp for a long amount of time and you have to soak in acetone, especially if you are constantly getting gel manicures , I don't think it is that much of a good alternative to getting regular manicures.

Gel is great, super shiny, lasts forever, flexible yet strong. The only problem is you may never use your regular nail polishes again =P

It weakens the nail bed. Once u turn down the path it may be hard to come back

@Loren If I'm not mistaken, that's only if you buff too much...
