Outfits can never be a tricky situation. It's all about dressing comfortably and getting inspirations from anyone or anything. Darlene, what you wear daily is a basic and casual outfit which can be layered with anything. Go to pinterest for inspirations or read fashion mags for inspirations. Don't be afraid to experiment.

I find that when I plan what I'm going to wear ahead of time, I always end up looking better.
organizing your stuff (clothes, shoes and jewellery) helps a lot since everything is going to be easily found.
then you do as Anna said, you can just pick one item you wanna wear (lets say a skirt) and then complete the outfit.
there are great apps that will help you get an idea of what your outfit is going to look like without having to actually try everything on (stylicious app). you can then tweak it as you feel like.
if you need style advice, internet is a great ressource for basic information. tumblr and blogs are a great source of inspiration!

I follow a one flowy one tight rule with clothes. So if I wear a tight bottom (shorts jeans leggings etc) I will wear a more loose fitting top. Or if I wear a flowy skirt I wear a tighter top. If the skirt is short and it is closer to fall I will also do long sleeve skirts and shirts for an unexpected fun look.
