Blonde to Black Hair HELP!

I've resorting to asking questions myself as there is next to no help in regards to a light to dark transition, which isnt as simple as it suggests.

I'm currently pretty much white blonde but going crazy with pastel colours at the moment, and I'm looking to dye my hair JET black..- this is important because I'm not talking about that dark brown cop-out colour, sorry not sorry!

The rare information I DO find online says about putting a red on then a black (for bleached hair) since you need to add all the colours back in ect ect. Is this 100% necessary to achieve black hair? Worried if it will affect the tone of the black (I.e becoming to warm and browny)

I understand if it is an important step I'm just asking because I've seen a few videos where they immediately put on a black and its done -but no follow up video or information about the colour. Or some have dyed it red then applied black and I am a little unsure. I'm not too worried about fading because I'm sure its inevitable it will happen on my hair atleast after the first dye but overall I don't want it turning a funky colour like some have said has happened - because I don't want to further damage my dry hair trying to correct the colour!

Any help would be hugely appreciated :) also would love box dye recommendations - I am NOT looking to go to a salon for this, so any good JET BLACK box dyes that have worked well for you would be helpful preferably brands I can find in the UK please :) Thanks again

From my knowledge, the red would make the hair a red-toned black. I would go through the levels of brown and then go black. However, I would not recommend doing the jet black by yourself. The levels of brown, sure, go for it. But for black, I would go professional as I have never found a box dye which is a JET black (I've only ever found blue black, purple black, red black, brown black etc). The hairdresser can also ensure the correct aftercare and can make a custom colour personal to you. Black is also an extremely difficult colour to get out. Personally, I would go professional for the black rather than risk your hair turning some crazy colour or being fried and having to pay much more in colour correction

Pravana is top quality for black.

Not necessarily red but you do need a filler color.
A filler color helps to fill in the hair to prevent it from turning green or blue.

When I was in school we learned about it.
It doesn't really matter how good the black is, just it only stains the hair so much.
You can use a color that's in between your current color and the color you want to go or color it twice

Hmmm very true, I may look into going to a salon just to ask how and what they would do, but the price is a big issue, I'll look into it thankyou, you have a good point.

I have basically white blonde hair so what would be a good filler colour? To a medium brown then put a black dye on?

I have never used Pravana, would you recommend it as the easiest way to go black?

Also I don't mind a subtle blue-black, my concern is that I don't want it to be too warm, so blue is better than that

It us my stylist favorite because it has serious staying power. I love it because it doesn't bleed into my blonde and retains richness much better for me personally than other brands. I think Pravana across the line is just excellent. Their vivids are gorgeous. I don't know anything about fillers or that sort of thing, I only know my own color (both of them) are Pravana and I love their shampoo as well. That and Pureology really help keep color lush.
