I use mac studio fix pressed powder and I've been using a brush to apply it but I've been wondering would the sponge it came with work better. Any tips?

Trash the sponge! It is a major bacteria holder. Unless you plan on washing it every other day I would toss. If applied with a misted stippling brush will actually give you a much natural look (with the full coverage you're wishing to achieve) plus you'll use less product. The sponge collects and deposits too much product thus giving you that super powdered look.
