I used Loreal HiColor Hilights and a 30 Volume developer.
I initially waited 40 minutes because I have very stubborn roots. However I'm unsure how to refresh it without seriously damaging my hair as this dye lifts color so it would be lifting the strands over and over lightening them in the process...Please help!

I'm wondering if I should maybe still use the same color/developer for roots then use same color and lower developer to refresh the ends...would that work ok?
specifically,.,,Loreal HiColor Hilights red with 30 developer for 40 mins on the roots only then going over it all with Loreal HiColor in Red Hot all over.
Im a little uncomfortable with my hair being super bright like it is right now

Maybe try using a red colored hair glaze that would bump up the color! Then do t wash as often and use Sls free shampoo and Aveda color depositing conditioner for red hair... Works great! I used to use the one for dark hair when my hair was dyed dark brown and worked beautifully an left it shiny and everyone complimented me.

I like to use manic panic
wash my hair. this maintains my hair for up to 2 months. if that's too much they have a red hair mask to refresh your hair at sallys. this will help the hair stay red until you have to touch it up a red protien filler is excellent to use as well you just lather it into your hair and bam the red is back and fierce. when you do have to dye your hair again do 30 on just your roots and while that's processing do the rest of your hair with 20 developer and a red protein filler I add about a 1/3 of a 2 ounce bottle but you could probably just do half of that I've had red hair since September and I think I'm getting the hang of it. hope this helps! :)

So I called loreal thinking that because its theyre product theyd "know what to do best",. Not so. After the "expert"chews me out for using the HiColor HiLights as an all over dye she tells me Red Hot and Red are very very similar and itd be fine to use HiColor Red Hot all over with a 30 developer...Now my hair is a very dark purple red and I could just cry, its awful.I'm going to have to wait till my hair fades out a bunch to try to fix is :(

Use a red colored conditioner like Aveda madder root. a little pricey but lasts a while and if your a cooler red it works great!

I use the same hair color and I noticed my hair was turning a lot lighter every time I was dying it. My hair stylist told me to use a 10 developer and it makes my hair really vibrant again without lightening it.
